Job Description

We are seeking a strong risk leader to head our Credit Policy team, which is part of our Credit Policy and Governance team. This individual is a key credit risk leader and partners with the Executive Credit Officers and the business units. The leader must have strong knowledge of credit policy, underwriting practices and regulatory requirements, as well as excellent executive presence, partnership and collaboration skills.

About the Role

The Credit Policy Manager leads a team of professionals responsible for the development, revision, maintenance, and administration of credit policy through the policy lifecycle in alignment with business strategy, risk appetite, enterprise governance and regulatory requirements. This individual partners across the Executive Credit Officers and business line senior management to provide a strong credit risk framework and ensure consistency across business lines and compliance with regulatory guidance

Key Activities

In this role, you will support U.S. Bancorp's Credit Risk team by:

  • Managing the credit policy framework and adherence to Enterprise policy standards

  • Demonstrating expert knowledge of underwriting, monitoring and risk rating practices and application to varied portfolios

  • Identifying gaps or other issues and providing recommendations for proposed policy revisions to appropriately enhance the policy framework while ensuring continued strong risk management.

  • Managing policy changes to close gaps identified by internal audit, external audit or bank regulators

  • Coordinating stakeholders across functional roles to reach consensus

  • Managing communications with the Executive Credit Officers and business lines regarding upcoming policy changes, reviews, and regulatory changes

  • Understanding and assessing the impact of potential credit policy changes across various portfolios through research and analysis of credit data and trends related to policy risk topics.

  • Partnering with the lines of business and credit risk to document strong supporting rationales for policy, standards and procedure changes

  • Monitoring and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of policy and the policy management workflow system through oversight of key process indicators

  • Leading the progressive development of the bank's credit policy structure to ensure alignment with peers and regulatory expectations and requirements

  • Coordinating internal and external exams of the credit policy management function

  • Partnering with credit and business lines to prepare and remediate regulatory findings in key exams (e.g., the Shared National Credit exam)

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's or advanced degree, or equivalent work experience
- Typically more than 12 years of applicable experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Expert knowledge of credit policy, underwriting, and commercial and consumer risk rating practices, including prudent assessment of metrics such as FCC, DRC, liquidity, leverage, etc.

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services best practices, and regulatory trends that impact credit risk and lines of business/portfolios

  • Strong understanding of the business lines' operations, products/services, systems, and associated risks and controls

  • Strong process facilitation, project management, and analytical skills

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and negotiation skills.

  • Strong leadership, executive presence and communication (written and verbal communication) skills

  • Demonstrated organizational strategy and talent development skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to connect concepts across teams/policies

  • Ability to collaborate and partner across risk professionals, legal, compliance, and business lines to achieve strategy goals in a prudent credit risk framework.

  • Knowledge of Risk/Compliance/Audit standards

  • Business acumen and credibility necessary to help business line(s) proactively identify and address changing workforce needs.

  • Strong knowledge of controls and governance expectations

This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $149,515.00 - $175,900.00
