What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Policy Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Policy Associate, you need strong research and analytical skills, a relevant degree (such as in public policy or political science), and a solid understanding of legislative processes. Familiarity with data analysis tools, policy tracking software, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite are typically required. Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders are valuable soft skills. These capabilities are crucial for effectively shaping policy recommendations, supporting advocacy efforts, and ensuring informed decision-making.

What are Policy Associates?

Policy Associates are professionals who support the development, analysis, and implementation of policies within organizations such as government agencies, think tanks, or advocacy groups. They conduct research, draft policy documents, and help communicate policy recommendations to stakeholders. Policy Associates often work closely with senior policy staff, legislators, and external partners to ensure that policies are evidence-based and effectively address relevant issues. Their role can also involve tracking legislative developments, organizing events, and preparing reports.

What are some common challenges Policy Associates face when working on legislative research and analysis?

Policy Associates often encounter challenges such as tight deadlines, rapidly changing legislative priorities, and the need to synthesize large volumes of complex information into concise briefs. Additionally, collaborating with diverse stakeholders and adapting to shifting political or organizational landscapes can require flexibility and strong communication skills. Staying organized and proactive is key to managing multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring that research and recommendations remain relevant and impactful.

Job description

Who You Are:

Galaxy Digital is looking for a Policy Associate to help build and lead our policy function covering AI infrastructure and AI governance. Reporting directly to the Head of Policy, this person will be a thought leader and operator, shaping Galaxy's policy positions, driving government engagement, and standing up a policy capability in a fast-moving space.

This role will be based in Washington, DC.

What You'll Do:

  • Support the Head of Policy in developing regulatory and legislative strategy on AI data center policy, including engagement across AI infrastructure, siting, energy procurement, and governance issues.
  • Track, analyze, and forecast federal and state-level policy developments affecting AI infrastructure, including legislation, regulations, and incentive programs, with a primary focus on Texas and expanding coverage as Galaxy's data center footprint grows.
  • Support development of Galaxy's positions on AI data centers and AI governance policy through research, drafting, and direct engagement with federal agencies, Congress, and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulators, industry coalitions, and key stakeholders, including state legislators, governors' offices, public utility commissions, and economic development agencies, to advance Galaxy's interests on AI policy.
  • Monitor permitting processes, local utilities, and political and regulatory developments in target markets, and flag risks and opportunities for internal teams.
  • Represent Galaxy in policy forums, trade associations, and industry roundtables as directed by the Head of Policy.
  • Draft policy briefings, comment letters, testimony, and advocacy materials for government officials and senior internal leadership.
  • Advise internal stakeholders and external partners on emerging AI policy developments and their business implications.
  • Embrace and champion the thoughtful adoption of AI to improve team performance and business outcomes.
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, data copilots) to improve productivity, decision-making, and output quality in your day-to-day work.

What We're Looking For:

  • 4+ years of policy experience, with significant exposure to energy, technology, or infrastructure policy at the federal or state level.
  • Experience in Congress, a federal or state regulatory agency, or a policy-focused role at a data center, or energy company strongly preferred.
  • Deep familiarity with AI policy debates, including data center infrastructure, energy permitting, and AI governance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to build policy functions or lead significant policy initiatives with limited infrastructure; a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity.
  • Existing relationships with relevant policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders in the AI and technology space.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex technical and policy topics for senior executives and government audiences.
  • Comfortable operating across federal and state levels simultaneously, with the agility to track and respond to policy developments across multiple jurisdictions.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive base salary and discretionary bonus
  • Hybrid/Flexible Working Arrangements
  • Flexible Time Off (paid)
  • 3% 401(k) company contribution
  • Company-paid health and protective benefits for employees, partners, and other dependents
  • Generous paid Parental Leave
  • Competitive family planning benefits for US employees
  • Opportunities to learn about the Crypto industry
  • Smart, entrepreneurial, and fun colleagues
  • Free daily snacks and weekly breakfasts/lunches
  • Employee Resource Groups
  • Free coaching and counseling sessions through Headspace
