Akerman is seeking a Conflicts Analyst (or Senior Conflicts Analyst depending on experience) to join the firm's Conflicts Department. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment analyzing and researching data associated with potential new business and new employees while contributing to the success of the firm. The Conflicts Analyst works closely with attorneys and team members of the Conflicts Department to identify possible ethical and business-related conflicts of interest. If you are an intelligent and curious individual who also enjoys research and variety each day, and would like to put your strong oral and written communication skills to good use, then this is definitely the job for you. The ideal individual will have a collaborative mindset, an acute attention to detail, and work well under pressure, but also understand the meaning of exceptional customer service. The position requires critical thinking, strong judgment, and decision-making skills to be able to research and seek out potential issues with bringing on new business and new employees to the firm. This position requires availability for a regular late-day schedule ending between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Typical schedules include 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., 10:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m., or 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. ET.
Responsibilities:
  • Research corporate affiliations of clients and parties using Hoover's/D&B as well as cross reference information using the internet, Secretary of State websites, and other research tools.
  • Perform routine conflicts of interest searches by identifying and validating party information; determining appropriate search criteria (Boolean operators); running searches and analyzing results for data to be included or excluded based on the policies and procedures of the General Counsel's Office.
  • Verify that all conflicts reports are complete, consistent, accurate, and adhere to established standards and procedures for all conflicts of interest searches performed Firm-wide.
  • Assist and respond to attorney and staff requests.
  • Assist in maintaining data in Intapp by updating client/matter name changes and adding parties to existing matters.
  • Uphold standards for searching and analyses on all requests by implementing and policing standards of accuracy, quality, and thoroughness.
  • Be available for urgent and confidential matters and situations, including evenings and weekends (on a rotating schedule).
  • Contribute to process, procedure, and technology improvements to provide optimum customer service and efficiency.
  • Exhibit proficiency in the understanding and utilization of the conflicts database; including maintenance and updating of the database (required for a senior analyst).
  • Review the work of junior analysts on a scheduled basis (required for a senior analyst).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Intapp Intake, Intapp Open, Hoover's/D&B and other research software is preferred (required for senior analyst).
  • Strict attention to detail and excellent analytical and organizational skills are a must.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be responsible for completing tasks and following through with the resolution of issues; including the ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast paced environment.
  • The ideal candidate must interact well with people at all levels with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Strong understanding of conflicts-of-interest, business intake procedures in a law firm environment is preferred (required for a senior analyst).
  • Four to five years of experience in risk management, research, reference library work, conflicts searching, or related experience is preferred (required for a senior analyst).
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Conflicts training will be provided.
