Temporary employees have no entitlement or expectation of continued employment during or beyond the appointment period. Position may average up to 29 hours per week.

Appointment Full-time Equivalency: 0.74 maximum

Bargaining Unit Announcement: This is NOT a bargaining unit position with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

If Not a Standard Work Schedule: 

Job Duties and Responsibilities: Personnel will be assigned to the Police Department's Field Services Division and assists our patrol officers with public safety details and enforcement activity. This includes assisting with criminal investigations, traffic crash investigations, special event details/assignments, and uniformed patrols of our housing areas on campus in an effort to deter criminal activity. This is in preparation for the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and providing real world job experience.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
Required Education: Associate's degree (any field). Required Experience: No previous work experience required. Equivalency: 2 years' experience as a certified PO; or 2 years' experience allowing for a combination of education (15 related credits equivalent to 6 months experience), and/or military service (honorably discharged), and/or certified PO experience.; Required Certification/License: Must successfully complete and graduate from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy within one year of date of hire. Will be required to successfully the Field Training Officer Program and probationary period.

Special Certification/Licensure: 
Must graduate within one year from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and become a commissioned police officer.

Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
