Description
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Under direction of the Community College Police chain of command, enforce applicable federal, state, city, county and district laws, and rules and regulations governing the use of college buildings and grounds. Perform complex law enforcement and patrol duties to maintain order, prevent crime, and ensure the safety and protection of students, visitors, and personnel on college district properties. Serve as the experienced lead officer on assigned shifts, providing work direction to officers and student aides in the absence of a supervisor.
There is currently one full-time (40hrs/week, 12 mos/year) vacancy located at the District Administrative Center.
This recruitment is being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, non-bilingual and bilingual, confidential, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year.

The District Administrative Center, centrally located in Camarillo, oversees administrative functions, and provides leadership and services to the three colleges in support of VCCCD's mission.

SALARY PLACEMENT:
New Employees: Generally, new employees are placed on the first step of the appropriate range of the salary schedule.
Current Employees: An employee who is promoted will be placed on the salary step of the new range of the appropriate salary schedule that provides a minimum increase comparable to a one-step increase in salary.

Representative Duties
Provide safety and protection of students, visitors and personnel. E
Serve as Field Training Officer or lead investigator as assigned; provide work direction and guidance to officers and student police aides on complex assignments; coordinate in-service training. E
Issue and process traffic and parking citations according to established procedures; direct traffic on the campus or at special events. E
Coordinate crowd and traffic control and provide security and police services at special events, assemblies, and other college functions. E
Investigate crimes and other incidents occurring on campus; make arrests, write reports as required; testify in court. E
Patrol college properties on foot or in a vehicle as assigned to maintain order and prevent crime; check and secure doors, rooms, and buildings and safeguard equipment; inspect for vandalism, illegal entry, theft, and fire; report hazardous or unusual conditions or malfunctions; extinguish small fires as necessary. E
Respond to alarm and radio calls; apprehend violators; provide emergency first aid; check and interrogate suspicious persons. E
Receive complaints and requests for assistance from students, visitors, and college personnel; contact other police and fire authorities as necessary. E
Provide information, direction, and assistance to students, visitors, and the public; resolve service complaints as appropriate. E
Ensure accurate accounting of daily parking fees; ensure preventive maintenance on vehicles and life-saving equipment. E
Escort District personnel transporting college funds as needed. E
Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, and ethnic communities. E
Demonstrate cultural humility, sensitivity, and equity-mindedness in working with individuals from diverse communities; model inclusive behaviors; and achieve equity in assignment-related outcomes. E
Perform related duties as defined in the Police Policy and Procedures Manual, Police Department General Orders Manual, and policies of the District.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency AND four years of service as a full time, regularly appointed peace officer in a U.S. public law enforcement agency.
OR
An associate degree from a recognized college or university AND three years of service as a full time, regularly appointed peace officer in a U.S. public law enforcement agency.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid California P.O.S.T. Basic certificate
Be eligible for and apply for P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certificate within one year of appointment
Pass a physical agility test
Possess a valid California Class C driver's license upon employment
Possess valid First Aid and CPR certificates by date of appointment.
Meet requirements of California Government Code Sections 1029, 1030, 1031 et seq.
Be at least 21 years of age
Pass a comprehensive background investigation to determine if the candidate meets department standards
Upon receiving conditional offer of employment, pass a medical and psychological examination and meet department standards
Successfully complete department field training
Pass a polygraph examination

EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS:
This examination is open to the public and current district employees seeking a promotional opportunity. To ensure consideration, please submit your application materials by the date listed in this bulletin.
The examination process may consist of any of the following components:
A) Training and Experience Evaluation = Qualifying (pass/fail)
B) Technical Interview and Performance Exam = 100% weighting on final score
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (T&E) EVALUATION:
A T&E is an assessment of training and experience, beyond the minimum requirements, that has prepared the candidate for the position as evidenced in the application materials. Please be sure to answer every component of each supplemental question as your responses will be scored and serve as your score on the training and experience (T&E) evaluation.
The candidates with the highest passing scores on the T&E will be invited to the technical interview.
TECHNICAL INTERVIEW DATE RANGE AND LOCATION:
Date Range: Monday, October 12, 2026 - Friday, October 23, 2026
Location: The Technical Interview will likely be conducted remotely, using Zoom. To participate, you must have access to a computer with a camera, microphone, speakers, and a reliable connection to the internet.
The examination components and dates are subject to change as needs dictate. All communication regarding this process will be delivered via email.

ELIGIBILITY LIST:
This position is part of the Senior Management Service in accordance with the provisions of the Education Code. Passing candidates will be placed on an unranked eligibility list that will be established to fill vacancies for one year.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial appointment or for promotion, with certain exceptions, shall be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service, whichever is longer. Classified management, police, and designated executive classifications shall be probationary for a period of one (1) year of paid service from initial appointment or promotion.

Paid Holidays: The Ventura County Community College District offers 15 paid holidays per year, plus 2 additional floating holidays.
Paid Vacation:
Full-time classified employeesearn vacation leave based on years of continuous service:
  • 6 months - 3 years: 8 hours per month, plus 3 additional days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
  • 3 - 10 years: 10 hours per month, plus 3 additional days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
  • 10+ years: 13.3 hours per month, plus 3 additional days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Administrators, managers, and full-time supervisory and confidential employees accrue 13.33 hours per month for each month they are in paid status, plus 3 additional days between Christmas and New Year's Eve.
Health Benefits: The District contributes up to the full premium cost of the PPO 90C or Kaiser HMO plan (whichever is higher) toward any eligible medical plan for full-time employees and their eligible dependents.
