Summary of Job The Caledonia Police Department is hiring for the position of Police Officer. We are looking to fill current openings and to establish a list for anticipated future vacancies. Now is a great time to join the Caledonia Police Department.

Our new Public Safety Building is now finished and we are continuing to move forward with the hiring of 8 new officers that were approved in a referendum in April 2023. This will help us to be more effective in all that we do and provide greater community engagement. If you are already a police officer but are looking for a change, consider a lateral move to Caledonia.

Lateral Hiring: The Village may hire external certified experienced applicants and set initial compensation and vacation accrual at a higher step, not to exceed the applicant's actual prior years of full-time law enforcement service. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Patrol assignments, as directed; Enforcement of all applicable local/county ordinances, State Statutes and Federal laws through surveillance, investigation and/or arrest, as appropriate, including the issuance of tickets for violations; Compliance with all policies and procedures of the department; Respond and follow through on citizen complaints; Traffic control measures for accidents, events, obstacles, incidents, crime scenes, and other activities, as needed; Recognize, locate, obtain and secure evidence while preserving the chain of custody; Prepare written reports and record maintenance, including daily log entries, daily activity sheets, incident investigations, arrests, and other records; Participate in court case preparation, appearances and prosecution as required; Provide first aid, residential and/or business security checks, crisis assistance, and other safety or security activities, as needed; Maintain vehicles, tools and equipment, used in the performance of the position; Serve as a positive community resource by establishing and maintaining working relationships with residents, businesses and visitors; Provide public education information to residents, schools and groups, concerning public safety, as assigned; Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously Ability to perform essential functions of this position Ability to possess a firearm Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays Clear and concise speech Driver's license Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification Good driving record Good physical condition Good verbal and written communication skills Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems No domestic abuse convictions No felony convictions React quickly and effectively to stressful situations U.S. citizen Vision correctable to 20/20 Minimum age 21 Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Must comply with residency requirement (within thirty [30] miles of Fire Station #10, (within the State of Wisconsin) within [18] months of hire date) Lateral Transfer: The Village may hire external certified experienced applicants and set initial compensation and vacation accrual at a higher step than the lowest rate, but such amounts shall not exceed the applicant's actual prior years of full-time law enforcement service or the existing schedule in the applicable current collective bargaining agreement
