Description:
The Podiatry Assistant – provides patient support services for podiatry visits in long-term care. This role includes transporting residents safely to and from the podiatry clinic area, assisting with documentation and charting, and supporting the podiatrist in maintaining efficient clinical operations. The assistant works under the supervision of the podiatrist and in accordance with facility and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Support & Transport
· Safely transport residents to and from the podiatry clinic area within the facility.
· Provide mobility assistance for patients, always ensuring safety and dignity.
· Assist with patient preparation for podiatric examinations and procedures.
Clinical Assistance
· Assist with information and documentation in patient charts (electronic or paper).
· Record vital signs, health history, and podiatry-specific notes as directed by the podiatrist.
· Ensure patient records are accurate, complete, and compliant with HIPAA standards.
· Prepare treatment areas with necessary supplies and assist in maintaining a clean, organized workspace.
Team Support
· Support podiatrist and nursing staff during patient visits as requested.
· Coordinate with facility staff to ensure timely patient flow and scheduling.
· Maintain inventory of supplies and report equipment or stock needs.
Qualifications
· Prior experience in long-term care.
· Ability to safely transport and assist patients with mobility needs.
· Basic computer/charting skills (EMR/EHR experience preferred).
· Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
· Commitment to patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand, walk, and assist patients with transfers throughout the workday.
· Must be able to push wheelchairs and safely assist residents with limited mobility.
· Lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
