This position maybe filled as a Construction Specialist or one level higher as a Senior Construction Specialist depending upon the selected candidate's experience.

Relocation assistance may be offered at the discretion of the hiring manager and dependent upon the selected candidate's geographic location.

This role reports directly to the Manager of Construction for Renewables and collaborates with and supports designated Project Managers.

This Construction Specialist position holds sole accountability for overseeing construction activities on PMC-supported projects, with project values ranging from approximately $10 million to $2 billion. The individual in this position is responsible for ensuring that all critical field construction success factors are achieved. These factors include, but are not limited to, meeting project scope, adhering to schedules, controlling costs, maintaining quality standards, ensuring environmental compliance, upholding safety protocols, facilitating effective communications, managing commissioning activities, and supporting integration efforts.

Serving as the central point of coordination in the field, the Sr. Construction Specialist provides leadership, management, direction, coordination, and control throughout the execution phase of each project. All activities are conducted in alignment with the established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements set forth by Duke Energy.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer direction, manage construction, and coordinate with internal and external groups supporting project construction, including engineering, project controls, supply chain, EHS, QA/QC, Regulated and Renewable Energy, transmission, and government relations.

  • Assist with schedule formation and monitoring, cost control measures, start-up and commissioning plans or site readiness, and integration processes. This includes the following project phases; construction, start-up and commissioning or site readiness, turnover to for operations, and warranty oversight.

  • Assist with the update, and enforcement of the Project Execution Plan (PEP) for the project that includes objectives, stakeholders, scope, roles and responsibilities, assumptions and constraints, deliverables, schedule, contractor and supplier strategy, budget, lessons learned, risk plan, quality plan, safety plan, environmental plan, security plan, integration plan, communications and reporting plan, change management, and project close out.

  • Manage all project deficiencies that impact cost, schedule, performance, environmental, safety, and quality (potential change orders, change orders, RFI's, non-conformances, contractual disputes, scope gaps, etc.)

  • Provide daily contract management oversight and adherence throughout the project for all contracts (equipment, services, engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), consulting, staff augmentation, etc.).

  • Field engineering and construction oversight; monitor the engineering and construction plan performance and implement corrective action if appropriate. Identify and mitigate all risk items that may jeopardize safety, cost, schedule, performance, quality, or environmental compliance.

Basic Required Qualifications - Construction Specialist

HS/GED and 5 plus years work related experience.

Basic Required Qualifications - Senior Construction Specialist

Associate's degree (technical/related) and 8 plus years work related experience OR

HS/GED and 10 plus years work related experience in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Experienced/Qualifications

  • Contract management, scheduling, cost reporting, safety regulations both companies and OSHA, various codes such as ASME, ACI, NEC, ANSI.

  • Simple Cycle/Combined Cycle construction experience.

  • 10+ years field construction and oversight experience.

  • Certifications/Training:

  • Project Management Professional

  • OSHA 30

  • OSHA 10

  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM)

  • NCCER Certification

  • Switching & Tagging/Work Authorization

Working Conditions:

  • Willingness to travel territories of Duke Energy as projects are system wide

  • Willing to be away for extended periods of time to support construction projects for up to a year.

  • This position is routinely required to work extended work schedules in support of work activities scheduled at night, weekends, and holidays

NOTE: This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.

  • Support contractor with Switching &Tagging/Work Authorization as needed

  • Assist with Contractor onboarding

  • Perform H&S observations as required

  • Versed and experienced with site development activities related to clearing & grubbing and site development, below grade civil activities related foundations/pads for structures and equipment, etc. Knowledgeable of electrical construction techniques/types, structural/buss and wire management construction techniques, equipment placement, all related wiring for both control and power and SCADA equipment installation.

  • Demonstrated experience with preparing for and commissioning of inverter based resources.
