Job description

Senior Service Plumber / Plumbing Trade Lead

Mountain Valley Plumbing, Heating & Cooling

Compensation: $85,000–$125,000 per year + performance bonus opportunities

Position Summary

Mountain Valley Plumbing, Heating & Cooling is looking for an experienced Senior Service Plumber who can handle our most challenging residential plumbing calls while also providing technical leadership to the rest of the plumbing team.

This is a senior field position for a Journeyman or Master Plumber with significant residential plumbing experience.

This is not strictly a management position. You will remain involved in the field, run high-level service calls, solve difficult plumbing problems, produce revenue, assist developing plumbers, and help improve the technical performance of the entire plumbing department.

For the right candidate, this position includes responsibilities as a Plumbing Trade Lead.

What You'll Do
  • Run complex residential plumbing service and diagnostic calls
  • Handle difficult jobs that require a senior level of plumbing experience
  • Diagnose problems and develop appropriate repair or replacement solutions
  • Perform and oversee significant residential plumbing repairs and installations
  • Assist plumbers when they encounter difficult technical problems
  • Run callbacks, determine root causes, and coach plumbers to prevent repeat issues
  • Provide installation quality control
  • Help ensure plumbing work meets code and Mountain Valley standards
  • Train and coach plumbing apprentices and developing service plumbers
  • Perform field ride-alongs and evaluate technician performance
  • Provide technical training to the plumbing team
  • Help apprentices progress toward increased responsibility
  • Manage your own calls and time to achieve required productivity and revenue goals
  • Identify legitimate opportunities to provide additional solutions for customers
  • Lead by example in workmanship, productivity, professionalism, and customer service
What We're Looking ForRequired
  • Journeyman or Master Plumbing License
  • Approximately 6+ years of plumbing experience
  • Strong residential service and troubleshooting experience
  • Ability to independently handle complex plumbing calls
  • Strong understanding of residential plumbing systems and applicable codes
  • Ability to train and coach less-experienced plumbers
  • Professional communication skills
  • Strong customer-service skills
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of residential plumbing work
Highly Preferred
  • Previous experience as a Lead Plumber, Field Supervisor, Plumbing Manager, or Technical Trainer
  • Experience managing or mentoring apprentices
  • Experience performing installation quality control
  • Strong diagnostic ability
  • Experience with higher-value residential plumbing projects
  • Experience coaching technicians on productivity, workmanship, and customer service
Leadership Responsibilities

As a senior member of the plumbing department, you will be expected to help improve the people around you.

That includes:

  • Being available when developing plumbers need technical assistance
  • Coaching plumbers instead of simply taking over their calls
  • Training apprentices and evaluating their progress
  • Identifying recurring technical problems and helping develop training to eliminate them
  • Reviewing callbacks and addressing their root causes
  • Helping maintain installation quality
  • Setting the standard for workmanship and professionalism
  • Supporting the overall productivity and performance of the plumbing team
What Success Looks Like

Success in this role is not measured only by how well you perform your own work.

A successful Senior Plumber / Trade Lead:

  • Solves difficult plumbing problems
  • Produces strong revenue while maintaining high-quality workmanship
  • Maintains a low callback rate
  • Helps developing plumbers successfully complete difficult calls
  • Improves the technical ability of the team
  • Helps apprentices advance
  • Protects the company from poor workmanship and unnecessary labor
  • Identifies legitimate customer opportunities
  • Delivers an excellent customer experience
  • Sets the example for the rest of the plumbing department
Compensation

$85,000–$125,000 annually, depending on licensing, experience, technical ability, leadership responsibilities, and performance.

Additional compensation may be available through the Standard Service or Trade Lead bonus plan.
