Senior Industrial Automation & Controls Engineer - PLC / SCADA
Location: Indianapolis, IN (Onsite)
Lead Complex Automation Projects from Design to Commissioning
PACIV is seeking a Senior Industrial Automation & Controls Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and commissioning of PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS solutions across utilities, wastewater, life sciences, and advanced manufacturing environments.
This is a client-facing engineering position focused on delivering complete automation solutions from concept through startup. This is a project-based engineering position, not a maintenance or production support position.

What You Will Do
As a Senior Industrial Automation & Controls Engineer, you will lead the complete lifecycle of automation projects, including system design, programming, integration, testing, and commissioning.
Responsibilities
  • Leading full lifecycle automation projects from design through commissioning
  • Designing and architecting PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS solutions
  • Developing and programming Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC systems
  • Designing and developing HMI and SCADA applications using platforms such as Ignition, Wonderware, iFIX, FactoryTalk, and WinCC
  • Creating and maintaining functional specifications, I/O lists, network architecture drawings, and technical documentation
  • Leading system integration efforts and ensuring seamless communication between control systems and connected devices
  • Managing and executing FAT, SAT, startup, and commissioning activities
  • Serving as the primary technical contact for clients and project stakeholders
  • Troubleshooting complex control system issues and performing root cause analysis
  • Establishing programming standards, reusable code libraries, and engineering best practices
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and industry standards

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and significant automation experience will be considered
  • 10+ years of industrial automation, controls engineering, or PLC/SCADA engineering experience
  • Demonstrated success leading automation projects from initial design through commissioning
  • Experience serving as a technical lead and client-facing engineering resource
  • Strong PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms
  • Experience developing HMI and SCADA applications
  • Strong background in industrial networking and control system integration
  • Experience performing FAT, SAT, startup, and commissioning activities

Required Technical Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience with; Rockwell automation and Allen-Bradley PLC platforms, DCS systems, SCADA and HMI applications, including Ignition, Wonderware, iFIX, FactoryTalk, and WinCC.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols; EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, and Profibus.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E, UL 508A, and applicable IEC standards.
