Established in 2004, Prime Controls, L.P. is a family-owned Systems Integration and I&C Construction firm dedicated to meeting clients' industrial automation and control requirements. As a Main Automation Contractor, we offer comprehensive solutions, supported by our size, expertise, and extensive experience. With a professional team of 1000+ employees, Prime Controls serves customers nationwide from our Dallas, Texas headquarters and offices throughout the United States. Our mission is to deliver the highest quality professional services while prioritizing our employees' well-being and fostering an exceptional workplace environment.
Overview
The Role
Spend your summer building real instrumentation & controls (I&C) systems alongside our engineering team. As an Engineering Intern, you'll support active projects across data center, energy, semiconductor, and water/wastewater markets-and see how a Platinum Rockwell Automation partner takes a project from design through commissioning.
Responsibilities
  • Support design engineers in developing instrumentation and electrical design deliverables, including drawings, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Assist with PLC, HMI, and SCADA configuration and testing under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Participate in systems and application engineering tasks, including factory acceptance testing (FAT).
  • Help compile submittals, technical documentation, and as-built records.
  • Research components and support procurement and bill-of-material (BOM) activities.
  • Attend project meetings and site walkdowns to understand end-to-end project execution.

What You'll Bring
Required
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Rising junior or senior standing preferred; in good academic standing.
  • Coursework or familiarity with controls, circuits, or automation concepts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills and a willingness to learn in both office and field settings.
  • Available to work full-time for the duration of the summer program; travel to project locations may be required.

Preferred
  • Exposure to AutoCAD, EPLAN, or PLC programming.
  • Prior internship, co-op, or hands-on project experience.

Internship Details
  • This is a full-time summer internship running approximately 8-10 weeks during Summer 2027, based at various Prime Controls locations.
  • Interns work alongside experienced professionals on meaningful, real-world projects and receive mentorship throughout the program.
  • The internship is designed to build practical, career-ready skills and to help interns explore career paths at Prime Controls.
  • Strong performers may be considered for future internship terms or full-time opportunities.

Benefits
What We Offer
Full-time employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including, but not limited to:
  • Health, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • Flexible Spending Account(s)
  • Generous PTO
  • ESOP Program

Work Environment & Physical Demands (Text Only)
Physical requirements and work environment expectations vary by position. Generally, roles at Prime Controls may involve moderate noise, occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, and, depending on the role, work at heights or around airborne particles and electrical components. Physical activities may include standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, as well as the use of hands, arms, and voice communication. Some roles may require lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements may include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Prime Controls is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Affirmative Action/Veteran/Disabled employer.
As a federal contractor, Prime Controls is required to participate in the federal government's E-Verify program, which confirms employment authorization of all newly hired employees and most existing employees through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security.
