Position Overview
Avid is seeking an entrepreneurial Project Manager (PM) with a focus on Business Development (BD) who brings both project execution discipline and a passion for building client relationships. This role is ideal for someone with an established network of industry contacts, a strong understanding of Life Sciences operations, and the ability to engage clients in meaningful conversations around their needs to identify and develop new business opportunities.
This individual will manage projects while actively driving growth by uncovering opportunities with existing and new clients, shaping solutions with clients, and supporting pursuit strategies. The ideal candidate thrives in a client-facing environment, can translate operational challenges into actionable solutions, build credibility, and is equally comfortable managing a project as they are initiating and advancing commercial discussions. Project management oversees all aspects of a project including the coordination and completion of projects on-time, within budget, and within scope. The PM sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors, summarizes the progress of projects, and prepares reports for management regarding the project status. The PM collaborates with clients to keep projects within scope, budget, and schedule, and works with departments to align resourcing and business goals.
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Hybrid position in RTP, with work in customer facilities as needed. Up to 10% overnight travel to North American sites outside of RTP.
Total Compensation, including Bonus: $100,000 - $190,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
On a typical day you will:
  • Coordinate with execution team, collaborating with a team of engineers with specialized skillsets to execute project tasks, report task status, provide execution feedback and project risks to help execute the project
  • Travel to client sites to assess projects firsthand, engage with stakeholders on upcoming initiatives, and identify opportunities for Avid to expand its presence and deliver additional value through its solutions.
  • Manage project deliverables such as updates to Functional Specifications (FS), Hardware Design Specifications (HDS), Software Design Specifications (SDS), Electrical Drawings, Installation and Operation Qualification (IOQ) Protocols, HMI Applications, PLC Applications, Control Strategies, System Configuration, and Information Solutions.
  • Monitor & control project scope to keep the project within budget, schedule, and quality, to deliver the proposed solution to the client.
  • Utilize Avid's Project Management Methodology and its templates to draft project management plans, track changes, prevent scope creep, monitor schedules, track procurement by utilizing Project Coordinators, and Interface with clients to gain overall business and functional requirements.
  • Regularly attend staff meetings, project meetings, client review meetings, and/or internal project review meetings.
  • Assist estimating teams with new opportunities and change orders.

We are looking for someone with a solid background in Project Management with engineering experience in a validated process industry, preferably with a focus in automation.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Life Sciences project management with business development. Demonstrated track record of delivering projects and developing client relationships that drive repeat business and growth.
  • Bachelor of science degree in engineering, project management, or other technical discipline or equivalent work experience and training
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management techniques, project flow, tools, risk management, and processes to effectively manage scope, schedule, budget, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to engage clients at manufacturing sites to identify operational needs, uncover opportunities, and develop business through direct, in-field interaction.
  • Ability to manage diverse personalities within the work team and client relationships, fostering collaboration
  • Detail-oriented team player with strong work ethic and accountability for managing multiple tasks, producing quality work, and consistently meeting deadlines
  • Strong business acumen, communication skill, and documentation management skills
  • Promotes Safety and adheres to Avid and client Safety policies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software
  • Ability to tour and work at manufacturing sites which may include activities such as climbing stairs and ladders
  • Ability to travel outside the RTP area when required - up to 10% domestic travel
  • Ability to carry at least 20lbs, which could include computer equipment, laptop bags, etc.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Firsthand industrial automation experience, preferably executing projects for a control systems integrator, supporting automated equipment in a factory, or building automated equipment for a manufacturer
  • Skilled in estimating, scope review, bid package evaluation, and assisting business development collaboratively.
  • Experience in writing specifications, generating test protocols, updating drawings, and quoting projects.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
