Senior Software Engineer - Telemetry, Observability & Platform Analytics
Overview
The PlayStation Portal Platform team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead Telemetry, Observability, and Platform Analytics initiatives that drive platform performance, stability, reliability, and operational excellence.
In this role, you will be responsible for defining and executing the telemetry strategy for PlayStation Portal (AOSP-based), including architecture design, data collection frameworks, analytics platforms, dashboard development, and automation. You will enable data-driven decision-making across the organization and help continuously improve platform quality and user experience.
You will work closely with Engineering, Quality Engineering (QE), Security, and Infrastructure teams to leverage data collected from millions of devices, identify opportunities for improvement, and deliver outstanding platform experiences for our users.
Key Responsibilities
Telemetry Architecture & Strategy
  • Define and drive the overall telemetry strategy across the platform
  • Establish KPIs for performance, stability, reliability, and security
  • Design and standardize platform telemetry data models and collection mechanisms
  • Design and implement Telemetry SDKs and data collection frameworks
  • Define data quality, schema management, and versioning strategies

Observability & Analytics Platform
  • Design and implement platform observability architectures
  • Build and manage unified Metrics, Events, and Traces pipelines
  • Develop real-time and batch analytics platforms
  • Enable engineering teams with scalable analytics and insights infrastructure
  • Drive data-informed quality improvements and operational excellence

Dashboard & Reporting
  • Design and develop Platform Health Dashboards
  • Visualize key performance, stability, and reliability metrics
  • Build reporting solutions for engineering leadership and executive stakeholders
  • Automate anomaly detection, trend analysis, and reporting workflows

Automation & CI/CD Integration
  • Automate telemetry validation and quality monitoring
  • Integrate quality and performance metrics into CI/CD pipelines
  • Develop automated performance regression detection systems
  • Automate benchmark execution and results collection
  • Define, implement, and maintain quality gates

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with QE teams to define and evolve quality metrics
  • Collaborate with Platform teams to implement telemetry collection mechanisms
  • Work with Security teams to design security-related metrics and monitoring
  • Partner with Infrastructure teams to optimize analytics and observability platforms

Required Qualifications
  • Genuine passion for creating outstanding user experiences and relentlessly improving platform performance, reliability, and quality through data-driven analysis and optimization
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of Android native development experience with strong expertise in Java, Kotlin, and Android Studio
  • Experience designing and implementing Telemetry and Observability systems
  • Experience developing Android/AOSP platform software
  • Experience building Metrics, Monitoring, and Analytics platforms
  • Experience using performance analysis and profiling tools (e.g., Android Studio Profiler, Perfetto, Systrace, atrace) for performance measurement, profiling, root cause analysis, and optimization at scale across system and application layers
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience leading technical initiatives in Agile development environments and collaborating effectively with cross-functional engineering teams
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Java, Kotlin, or C++
  • Experience with dashboarding, visualization, and reporting tools
  • Experience designing and developing large-scale distributed systems

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with observability platforms such as Grafana, Kibana, Datadog, or similar tools
  • Experience with large-scale analytics platforms such as BigQuery, Snowflake, Spark, or equivalent technologies
  • Experience implementing and operating OpenTelemetry-based solutions
  • Experience developing consumer electronics products or gaming devices
  • Experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or Reliability Engineering
  • Experience building machine learning-based anomaly detection systems
  • Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, React Native, Angular, or similar technologies
  • Experience designing and developing responsive user interfaces and dynamic web applications

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
