Job description

The Washington Spirit is seeking a licensed and trained security professional. In this role, you will provide for the welfare, physical protection, and security of a high-profile NWSL team and its players, coaching staff, and team support staff by conducting unarmed executive protection assignments. This position requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and physical fitness. The specialist will work closely with team management, security personnel, and external partners to mitigate potential risks and provide a secure environment for team members to focus on their athletic performance.
The Team Security Manager will:
  • Provide close protection and other security-related functions for the players, coaching staff, and team support staff during training sessions, player appearances, home games, and away matches.
  • Lead counter surveillance operations prior to away matches for venues, lodging, and airports.
  • Perform protective advance planning and threat vulnerability assessments. - In transit of away matches, ensure the safety and security of the players, coaching staff, and team support staff in airports, lodging, and events, using local law enforcement, as needed in the event of a credible threat.
  • Effectively manage the players, coaching staff, team support staff, or their family/representative requests against the need to ensure all safety and security precautions at home and away stadiums.
  • Collaborate with Audi Field security during home events. Stadium security will manage all field and tunnel-related matters and you as Team Security will manage all matters in the Locker Room area.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist medical personnel as needed.
  • De-escalate tense situations or individuals that arise locally and while traveling.
  • Research and communicate vulnerabilities or safety concerns in a timely manner and coordinate with local police when needed.
  • Complete reports such as suspicious activity, incident reports, pattern of life reports, and others for historical data and analysis.
  • Inspect transport vehicles for safety and sanitation.
  • Coordinate and liaise with Loudoun County Sheriff's Department for security coverage at Inova Performance Center when needed.
  • Operate ensure proper function of protective equipment and communications equipment such as CCTV cameras, radios, etc.
  • Promptly identify and escalate deficiencies/failures of security plans and safety protocols to Sr. Director of Soccer Operations.
  • Domestic travel is required up to 50% of the time. Travel, lodging, and food are covered by the club.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate has:
  • College degree with prior experience in law enforcement, military, or a federal agency executing protection detail or prior Team Security with either MLS, NWSL, MLB, NBA, NHL, or NFL experience, preferred.
  • Successful completion of club pre-employment screening process
  • Able to communicate professionally in English at all levels of the organization and with external individuals. Spanish or French skills are a plus.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation
  • Experience with advance planning, surveillance, and counter-surveillance operations for high net-worth clients.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Discretion, integrity, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Knowledge of basic computer hardware and peripherals, including smartphones, printers, monitors, and more.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects such as servers and battery backup systems. Occasional bending, lifting, and carrying of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • May work in an outdoor setting as required.
  • Ability to walk, run, climb, and stand for long periods of time.
