What is a Platform Director?

A Platform Director is a senior leader responsible for overseeing the development, management, and strategic direction of a technology or business platform within an organization. They coordinate teams across engineering, product, and operations to ensure the platform meets business objectives and user needs. Platform Directors also manage budgets, set key performance indicators, and often play a central role in scaling and improving the platform's capabilities. Their work ensures the platform remains reliable, scalable, and aligned with the company's growth strategy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a platform director?

To thrive as a Platform Director, you need strong leadership skills, strategic project management experience, and a background in platform architecture or software engineering, often supported by a relevant degree. Outstanding communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities help set top performers apart in this position. These skills and qualities are crucial for overseeing complex platform initiatives, aligning technical teams, and ensuring platform scalability and reliability.

How does a platform director typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals?

As a Platform Director, you will regularly work alongside product managers, engineering leads, UX designers, and business stakeholders to develop and execute platform strategies. This role often involves facilitating communication between technical teams and business units, ensuring that platform initiatives align with broader company objectives. Effective collaboration is key, as you'll need to balance multiple priorities, resolve conflicts, and drive consensus to deliver scalable solutions that support diverse user and business needs.

Job description

Company Description
Job Description
We're looking for the first Account Executive who will help build the Education vertical at Base44 - The AI platform that lets schools and universities build custom software using natural language. You'll be building the playbook from scratch in a high-growth, post-acquisition environment inside Wix.
This role is ideal for a seasoned seller who knows how to navigate the Education buying process, from budget cycles and RFPs to multi-stakeholder committees, and who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. You'll play a foundational role in scaling our business, building trusted relationships with district and institutional leaders, and unlocking growth through a consultative, value-driven sales approach. You'll work closely with our founders and Wix leadership to define what success in Education looks like for Base44.
  • Own the full sales cycle from outbound prospecting to closing new business within Mid-Market and Enterprise Education accounts (K-12 districts, higher ed institutions)
  • Navigate education-specific procurement processes, including RFPs/RFQs, purchasing cooperatives, and budget/fiscal-year cycles
  • Translate Base44's product vision into real-world conversations that resonate with technical and administrative stakeholders, including Superintendents, CIOs, CTOs, Provosts, and IT Directors
  • Build early revenue by identifying, engaging, and converting high-potential Education prospects
  • Shape the foundational sales motion for the Education segment, including messaging, outreach strategy, and account segmentation
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Marketing, and leadership to align go-to-market efforts specific to Education
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers across district and institutional leadership
  • Accurately forecast deals, manage pipeline, and maintain CRM best practices
  • Act as a feedback loop between the Education market and the product team to influence roadmap and positioning

Qualifications
  • 8+ years of B2B closing experience, with a meaningful portion selling into Education (K-12 and/or Higher Ed)
  • Proven track record of consistently exceeding quota and closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals
  • Strong understanding of Education procurement processes, budget cycles, and purchasing vehicles (RFP/RFQ, cooperative contracts, E-Rate familiarity a plus)
  • Experience with AI, ML, data platforms, or product-led SaaS is a strong plus
  • Experience with bottom-up sales motions, leveraging Individual Contributors (ICs) to expand adoption within an organization
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with an ability to tailor messaging to both technical and non-technical, administrative audiences
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable with ambiguity in a high-growth environment

Additional Information
We're Base44, a newly acquired part of Wix, on a mission to change how software gets built. Our AI-powered platform allows anyone to create custom software applications using natural language, no traditional coding required. We operate like a startup within Wix: fast-moving, collaborative, and focused on solving complex problems with simple, elegant solutions.
As our first Education-focused Account Executive, you'll play a key role in shaping our go-to-market approach in this segment, working closely with our founders and Wix leadership to bring this transformative technology to schools and institutions across the country.
Approximate base compensation is $115,000 - $130,000/yr. In addition to the base pay this role includes variable compensation earned and company RSUs as part of the compensation package.
Final offer may vary and will be determined by various factors including location the role is expected to be performed, shift, candidate profile and ideal qualifications.
