Job Description

We are looking for a Director of Engineering, Platform to lead our Global Developer Engineering within the Tech Foundations vertical. Based in Berlin, your mission is to maximize the leverage of Delivery Hero's engineering organizations by reducing complexity through a cohesive and opinionated platform, and to deliver an amazing developer experience.

In this role, you will oversee the unified developer platform and core infrastructure capabilities that empower over 4,000 software engineers across our global engineering community to build, deploy, and operate resilient software. Success in this role directly accelerates product delivery, enhances system stability, and optimizes cloud-native infrastructure costs across the entire Delivery Hero group.

Reporting to the VP of Global Developer Platform, you will be a strategic thought leader, an impactful mentor for engineering leaders, and a key partner to executive stakeholders across our global market-leading brands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Platform Alignment: Defined and executed a comprehensive platform and Infrastructure strategy aligned with overarching business objectives, successfully managing infrastructure budgets, driving group-wide cost optimization, and demonstrating clear ROI to C-level executives.
  • Platform-as-a-Product Mindset: Championed an internal "platform-as-a-product" approach, treating developers as key customers to deliver robust self-service capabilities and "golden paths" that minimized cognitive load and accelerated workflows.
  • Global Team & Culture Leadership: Led, scaled, and mentored a global engineering organization of 50+ platform engineers across major hubs (including Berlin and Barcelona), establishing a high-trust culture focused on accountability and continuous learning.
  • Leadership & Subsidiary Governance: Guided and coached engineering managers and while aligning embedded platform teams across global subsidiaries to maintain unified engineering standards.
  • Unified Multi-Cloud Architecture: Oversee the architecture, design, and reliable rollout of automated, secure cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), and microservices tooling aligned with the tech radar.
QualificationsTechnical Experience
  • Proven Engineering Foundation: 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering, with at least 5+ years dedicated to platform engineering at a web-scale level.
  • Large-Scale Platform Impact: Proven experience building, scaling, and driving the group-wide adoption of a unified developer platform in large, highly complex, or distributed organizations.
  • Cloud-Native Architecture: Deep familiarity with cloud-native microservice landscapes, event-driven architectures, and robust containerization/observability frameworks.
  • Tooling & Language Expertise: Technical proficiency in modern coding languages (such as Go) and robust experience with AWS and GCP infrastructure ecosystems.
Leadership Experience
  • Senior Leadership Track Record: 5+ years in senior engineering leadership roles (Director level or above) with demonstrated success managing multiple teams of teams and serving internal customers.
  • Strategic Influencer: Outstanding communication and influencing skills, with a track record of gaining buy-in from senior leadership.
  • Cost Management & ROI: Strong business acumen with a proven capability of managing large-scale infrastructure budgets and driving operational efficiencies.
  • Educational Background: Master's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical engineering background is a plus.
