Injection Mold TechnicianPay Rate - $26/hr.+

Job Description

The Mold Technician repairs, maintains, and improves complex multi-cavity molds with various hot runner systems to support high-quality plastics injection molding operations. This role inspects molds, performs preventative maintenance, and uses machine tools to fabricate and repair mold components, fixtures, and gauges in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain complex multi-cavity molds equipped with various types of hot runner systems to ensure consistent and reliable production.
  • Analyze mold condition for preventative maintenance using check sheets, quality assurance reports, pull shots, and detailed visual inspection.
  • Operate machine tools to fabricate, modify, and repair mold components, fixtures, and gauges according to specifications and standards.
  • Troubleshoot mold and tooling issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Perform adjustments and fine-tuning on molds and hot runner systems to improve performance, part quality, and cycle times.
  • Inspect molds and tooling for wear, damage, or defects and determine appropriate repair or replacement actions.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications to maintain accurate records and support continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to resolve molding issues and ensure molds meet required performance and quality standards.
  • Follow established safety procedures and best practices while working with machine tools, molds, and related equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling, molds, and maintenance processes.

Essential Skills

  • Experience as a toolmaker, mold technician, or in a similar tooling and maintenance role in a plastics injection molding environment.
  • Hands-on experience with plastics injection molding and injection mold maintenance, including multi-cavity molds.
  • Proficiency working with hot runner systems and understanding their operation, setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong tool and die background, including construction, alteration, and repair of complicated tools, molds, and gauges.
  • Ability to operate machine tools to fabricate and repair mold components, fixtures, and gauges.
  • Effective troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving mechanical and tooling issues.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Approximately four years of on-the-job experience or completion of an apprenticeship, plus additional experience in the construction, alteration, or repair of complex tools, molds, and gauges to meet standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship or formal training in toolmaking, tool and die, or a related trade.
  • Experience working with complex multi-cavity molds and various hot runner configurations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with precision machining and measurement tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and maintenance documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team in a manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

Most opportunities are on third shift, with schedules typically around 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. or 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., and some roles may be available on second shift, generally around 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The work environment requires adherence to safety procedures, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and comfort working in a production setting with machinery and tooling.
