Plastic Injection Mold Maker (Los Angeles)

We are a dynamic technology start-up currently developing more than 100 innovative products and inventions with multiple utility patents field with USPTO.

We are seeking an experienced plastic injection mold maker to join our engineering team in the research, development, optimization and launch of biodegradable and compostable plastics. This candidate will focus on mechanical and technical improvements for plastic extrusion, molding and other thermoforming processes to meet company goals.

Responsible for laying-out, building, fine-tuning and repairing injection molds.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Competent, safe operation of manual milling machines and lathes
  • Programming, set-up and operation CNC milling machines, CNC WEDM machines (Charmilles and Sodick), CNC Die sinking EDM machines, Manual EDM machines, saws, surface grinders
  • 3 axis and 5 axis CNC operation
  • Interpret customer-supplied parts, drawings, and computer files
  • Mold layout, including materials, gates, vents, parting lines, overall size, shrinkage, heat transfer
  • Utilize any/all machine centers to achieve desired results
  • Fabricate high-quality injection molds
  • Meeting schedule commitments (on-time build)
  • Fine-tune molds based on feedback from molding department
  • Repair molds based on feedback from molding department
  • Conduct complicated mold maintenance as needed
  • T/R housekeeping, keep machine centers and personal tools orderly
  • Notify manager or project manager of any materials or tools required
  • Participate in corrective / preventive action reviews (assist production in troubleshooting)
