Job description

Extrusion Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining extrusion machinery designated to melt resin and shape plastic sheets. Adjust the tooling and processing parameters to meet product specifications. Is responsible for monitoring defects and machine malfunctions. Follows safety procedures and sanitation regulations.

DESCRIPTION

  • Ensure all parameters of Safety, Food Safety and Quality are comply to minimize workplace hazards.
  • Immediately report to supervisor any incident or unsafe condition identified in the workplace.
  • Review working conditions of the extruder and of the dosing equipment.
  • Verify all additives are in the correct tank by visually reviewing the additive inventory, including dashboard.
  • Coordinate with weaving material handler to transfer the yarn to the weaving department.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor operational issues or malfunctions that may arise during the production process to minimize downtime.
  • Check function of winders and temperature and operation of the chillers.
  • Measure material density, cohesion, and adhesion.
  • Be vigilant of the material that is left and check the silos.
  • Maintain area organized and clean.
  • Fill out production reports with accuracy and attention.
  • Perform all tasks with a sense of urgency and accuracy.
  • Follows safety policies and sanitation regulations.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by management.

COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Mechanical ability to run equipment and use small hand tools.
  • Basic math and measuring ability.
  • Mental alertness to identify and react to machine process, quality and safety issues.
  • Ability to be organized, multitask and keep up in a fast paced environment
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on producing high-quality output in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Able to read and write
  • Repetitive bending, stooping and reaching for extended periods.  
  • Must be knowledgeable of GMPs, FSSC 22000:2005 and HACCP.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to operate basic tools and measuring devices (tape measure, scale, etc.).
  • Ability of repetitive reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, carrying for extended periods.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed primarily on the manufacturing floor, which may involve exposure to loud noises, machinery, high temperatures and chemicals.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
