Role Description The Mechanical Design Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in McPherson, KS. This role is responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and downstream equipment used in plastics extrusion, from concept through production. Typical day-to-day tasks include creating detailed 3D models and drawings using CAD software, performing design calculations, collaborating with manufacturing and assembly teams, and supporting prototype builds and testing. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot design issues, improve existing products for performance and reliability, and ensure designs meet safety, quality, and industry standards. Additional responsibilities include maintaining documentation, participating in design reviews, and contributing to continuous improvement and innovation initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering and Design Engineering, with the ability to apply engineering principles to machinery and equipment.
  • Proficiency in Machine Design and Product Design, including experience developing components and systems for industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) for 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience in plastics extrusion, industrial machinery, or manufacturing equipment design is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, standards, and customer requirements, and translate them into practical design solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and a focus on quality and safety.
