Job description

Position Summary

Machinists are responsible for the machining of equipment that meets company defined quality standards. Machinists complete stages of build as required, work effectively to ensure jobs meet the production schedule, and work with other departments to ensure on time delivery and product quality.


Essential Job Functions

  • Safely operate CNC and manually controlled machining equipment such as milling machines, lathes, drill presses, punches, saws, etc.
  • Ability to program a single assigned CNC controlled machining equipment such as mills, turning centers, etc.
  • Perform routine maintenance on machining equipment (weights in excess of 50lbs regularly)
  • Ensure testing and quality documentation is being processed per company procedures
  • Work effectively to ensure jobs meet the production schedule
  • Work with other departments to ensure on time delivery and product quality
  • Responsible for being clocked in/tracking time on appropriate work orders
  • Follow company policies and safety procedures as required
  • Ensure safe working environment and procedures
  • Minimize rework
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area (daily)
  • Prompt and reliable attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at the facility such as working in high and low temperatures.
  • The noise level in the production facility can vary.
  • Employee will be required to work around/near industrial metal equipment including machinery such as plasma table, hand plasma cutters, MIG welders, TIG Welders, mills, lathes, etc.
  • Work site is an industrial facility with a dusty atmosphere (i.e., stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum metal dust)
  • Subject to paint fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or other atmospheric conditions
  • The employee is regularly required to stand.
  • The employee frequently is required to move about, use hands/fingers to operate equipment, and communicate
  • The employee must frequently (several times per day) lift or move objects up to 25 lbs., regularly (daily) lift or move objects up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift or move objects up to 75 lbs.
  • Close visual acuity required to perform activities such as: viewing a computer terminal; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; reading blueprints and drawings; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts

Equipment Operated:

  • This role routinely uses equipment associated with sheet metal fabrication including, but not necessarily limited to:
    • Milling machines and lathes,
    • Air &/or electric grinders
    • Overhead cranes
    • Forklifts
    • Horizontal & vertical saws
    • Drill press
    • Belt sander
    • Barcode scanner


Competencies

Required

  • Minimum of 4 years machining experience
  • Ability to interpret and analyze bill of materials, drawings, etc., that are critical to machining and/or manufacturing
  • Ability to work proficiently with basic math
  • Proficiency in the use and care of various measuring instruments (e.g. calipers, tape measure, protractor, etc.,)
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with awareness of deadlines
  • High attention to detail


Conditions of Employment

Candidate must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record if driving is necessary to the position. Candidate must authorize Horizon Systems to perform an MVR (motor vehicle report) before hire, at the expense of Horizon Systems. Unsatisfactory report findings will immediately disqualify the candidate from employment consideration.
