Position Information
Position Title Plant Utilities Assistant Position Description
The State University of New York College of Optometry, located at 33 West 42nd Street in Manhattan, is accepting applications for a NYS Department of Civil Service Plant Utilities Assistant

Duties include assisting with the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment that provides heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical distribution. Will work under the supervision of a Plant Utilities Engineer 1or 2. Perform light plumbing and electrical work. This position is on a 4-year apprenticeship track, leading to the Plant Utilities Engineer 1 Grade 14 position.
Salary
Hiring Rate for this Grade 9 position is $42,641 plus $575 shift differential and $4,000 location pay. Current NYS employees will receive the hiring rate or a percentage increase in basic annual salary, whichever results in a higher salary. View our Benefits at a Glance

Schedule
Monday & Tuesday - 10 pm - 6:30 am
Wednesday to Friday - 2 PM to 10:30 PM
Saturday and Sunday - Off
Minimum Qualifications
For consideration for this title, you must meet one of the following minimum qualifications:
New York State Department of Civil Service Eligible List or eligible for transfer.
Or
Open-competitive (Non-competitive, NY HELPS) Qualifications:
Either 1. An associate's degree in HVAC;
Or, 2. One year of full-time hands on experience in the maintenance and operation of commercial, industrial, institutional facility, computer applications of digital energy platforms and building analytics and/or performing diagnosis, repair of HVAC systems or boilers or auxiliary equipment;
Or, 3. One year of full-time hands on experience in a residential setting performing diagnosis, operation, maintenance repair of HVAC systems or boilers or auxiliary equipment;
Or, 4. Completion of an HVAC certificate or diploma from a BOCES program (440 hours) OR completion of an approved certificate in HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, boiler operations and maintenance, or plumbing from an accredited technical school or technology college.

Selected candidate will be required to complete an approved certificate course in HVAC, BMS, Refrigeration, Electrical, and Plumbing from an accredited technical school or technology college.
