An Operations Manager is required to lead the day-to-day performance of a small-scale wood-fired biomass power plant in Vermont. This is a hands-on leadership role combining plant operations, team supervision, troubleshooting, fuel management, safety, compliance and maintenance coordination.

The Operations Manager will work closely with the Plant Manager, maintenance team and fuel suppliers to support safe, reliable and efficient renewable power generation. The role is suited to an experienced operations professional from biomass, power generation or industrial plant environments who is comfortable leading operators while remaining actively involved in plant performance and technical problem-solving.

Operations Manager Benefits:

The Operations Manager Role:

  • Oversee daily plant operations and provide leadership to control room operators and steam plant operators.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for shift operators, providing technical support and operational direction.
  • Monitor plant performance, troubleshoot operational issues and make real-time process adjustments to support efficiency, output and reliability.
  • Manage wood fuel receiving, handling and inventory to maintain consistent fuel supply and quality.
  • Work alongside operators during startup, shutdown and maintenance activities when required.
  • Train and develop operators in safe working practices, plant procedures and cross-functional responsibilities.
  • Coordinate operational staffing across the five-shift rotation to maintain coverage.
  • Work with the Maintenance Supervisor to support preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, annual outages and plant improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate operational, inspection and work-order records within the CMMS.
  • Support environmental compliance, safety meetings, incident reviews and regulatory reporting.

Operations Manager Requirements:

  • At least five years of experience in biomass, power generation or industrial plant operations.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with hands-on plant experience.
  • Experience with biomass or solid-fuel boilers and steam turbine operations.
