Come join the Facilities team at Saint Mary's Hospital, part of Trinity Health Of New England! We are a member of the nationwide Trinity Health family, bringing compassionate care to our communities.


Position Purpose:

The individual in this position acts as a quality service individual who operates, monitors, repairs and maintains Central Plant systems and equipment including boilers, chillers, HVAC units, related auxiliary equipment and controls in a safe and efficient manner.

What you will do:

  • Monitors and repairs major boiler components including fire box, water tubes, headers and mud drums.

  • Monitors and repairs burners including control valves, nozzles and tips for all fuels utilized.

  • Monitors and repairs boiler fire safety control systems.

  • Monitors and repairs boiler combustion control systems.

  • Monitors and repairs feedwater and make-up water treatment and supply system including condensate storage, deaerator transfer and feedwater supply pumps, pressure regulator and boiler water level control.

  • Maintains condensate return pumps, steam traps and associate piping.

  • Maintains steam supply header valves and bypass arrangements.

  • Maintains pressure regulating valves and bypass arrangements.

  • Performs fuel supply monitoring, measuring, transfer systems, valves and record keeping.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Preferred diploma from a vocational/technical High School.

  • Must have proficiency in basic reading, writing and mathematics skills.

  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in boiler operations and/or general HVAC work. Healthcare setting experience is preferred. Participation in and/or completion of an Apprenticeship

    program in the HVAC or Plumbing trade is preferrable. Any apprenticeship experience will count towards the minimum of 5+ years requirement above.

  • Must have a valid Connecticut Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the hospital's "Driver and Vehicle Policy."

  • Connecticut State Journeyman (S-2) License preferred.

  • Demonstrated by meeting standards in key result are for "Trade Knowledge/Ability."

Physical and Mental Effort:

  • Some minor inconvenience or discomfort routinely present in the work situation (moderately noisy, disagreeable odors, etc.), or occasional exposure to minor injury or other occupational hazards requiring precaution.

  • Must possess the ability to comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.

  • Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as eye protection, ear protection, gloves, masks, and other equipment deemed necessary to perform the work safely.

  • Must be willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds individually.
