Job description

Wood's Power Engineering group is growing rapidly amid the current power boom. We are adding two experienced Senior Process Engineers to our team in Atlanta, GA (preferred) or Greenville, SC to support a strong pipeline of conventional, renewable, and low-carbon energy projects. These will be hybrid roles.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a respected 50 year legacy team working on technically challenging, high-impact power generation projects across the full project lifecycle - from feasibility studies and FEED through detailed design and commissioning support.
If you are a seasoned power process engineer looking to make a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply. Please submit your resume and a brief note summarizing your relevant power plant experience. No Agencies Please.
Responsibilities
Our group has delivered a wide range of industrial and utility power projects, including:
  • Simple-cycle and combined-cycle gas turbine plants
  • Cogeneration (CHP) and district energy facilities
  • Conventional thermal power plants (various boiler types and fuels)
  • Biomass, waste-to-energy (WTE), and solid-fuel industrial power plants
  • Chemical recovery boilers for the pulp & paper industry
  • Air pollution control systems (FGD, SCR, and similar)

Wood is also a recognized leader in emerging technologies such as solar thermal, geothermal, wind integration, gasification, carbon capture, green and blue hydrogen, and renewable fuels.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead process and mechanical design for power generation facilities
  • Develop heat and mass balances, thermodynamic cycle analyses, and equipment sizing
  • Prepare equipment specifications, data sheets, P&IDs, and process flow diagrams
  • Serve as lead process engineer coordinating with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, controls, civil/structural)
  • Support feasibility studies, front-end engineering & design (FEED), and detailed engineering
  • Provide occasional field support for construction, commissioning, startup, or performance testing (as needed)

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • 10-35 years of relevant power plant process/mechanical engineering experience
  • Background at an AE firm, EPC contractor, utility, industrial power generation facility (plant engineer or operations), or major power equipment OEM
  • Strong experience in one or more of the following: gas turbine simple/combined-cycle plants, cogeneration/CHP, conventional thermal/boiler-based plants, biomass/WTE, chemical recovery boilers, air pollution control systems (FGD/SCR)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Thermoflow suite (Thermoflex, PEACE, GT PRO, etc.) or equivalent power cycle simulation tools
  • Field experience (commissioning, startup, performance testing, or plant operations)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license

What We Seek
We are looking for highly motivated engineers with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical and computer abilities, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
What We Offer
  • Opportunity to work on diverse, high-visibility projects during a transformative time in the energy sector
  • Collaborative culture with industry veterans and opportunities to mentor and lead
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits
  • Choice of vibrant Southeast locations (Atlanta, GA or Greenville, SC) with access to the growing regional power industry
