Job description

Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform and assist with both preventative and corrective maintenance on asphalt plant equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections and help repair or replace components such as conveyor belts, screens, wear components, pumps, and other plant parts.
  • Help keep plant machinery operating efficiently and minimize equipment downtime.

Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

  • Assist in identifying mechanical and operational problems throughout the plant.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and systems including dryers, mixers, conveyors, electrical controls, and related plant components.
  • Work with supervisors and other maintenance personnel to determine the appropriate repairs and solutions.

Equipment Operation

  • Operate plant machinery as needed to test equipment following maintenance or repairs.
  • Safely operate equipment such as forklifts, manlifts, and other machinery when required.
  • Verify that equipment is functioning properly before returning it to normal operation.

Welding & Fabrication

  • Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and general fabrication work to repair or modify plant components.
  • Fabricate parts and make equipment repairs as needed to support plant operations.

Safety & Work Environment

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and required precautions.
  • Properly document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and equipment issues.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area.
  • Communicate equipment concerns and maintenance needs to supervisors and other plant personnel.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Ability: Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work on industrial plant machinery and systems.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Capable of identifying equipment problems, determining potential causes, and assisting with effective repairs.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Experience with welding, torch cutting, grinding, and general metal fabrication.
  • Equipment Operation: Comfortable operating various types of industrial and plant equipment.
  • Safety Mindset: Knowledge of safe work practices and the ability to recognize and avoid workplace hazards.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Able to communicate clearly and work effectively with supervisors, mechanics, and other plant employees.

Additional Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be willing and available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, nights, weekends, and extended hours when necessary.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting, moving, and positioning large equipment components.
  • Must be able to climb silos, aggregate bins, conveyor structures, and other elevated areas while performing job duties.
  • Must occasionally be able to lift up to 100 pounds of force and frequently pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying materials from floor level to waist level.
  • Must be able to push and pull objects requiring similar levels of force.
  • Physical requirements may include, but are not limited to, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, kneeling, squatting, bending, climbing, and working from elevated locations.

This position works in a safety-sensitive environment.

  • Work conditions may include substantial levels of noise, vibration, and heat. Exposure may be intermittent but can present risks including hearing damage and other bodily injury.
  • Employees may regularly encounter dust, dirt, and other materials associated with asphalt plant operations.
  • The work environment includes potential hazards such as elevated work areas, moving machinery, electrical equipment, hot materials, and other mechanical hazards.
  • This position is primarily outdoors and employees may be exposed to changing and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
  • Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment while performing job duties.
