Position Summary
The position of Plant Technician includes operation, preventive maintenance, trouble shooting and responding to outages at Amp's biogas upgrading plants. This role reports to the Plant Manager and will be either 8-hour day shift or 12-hour shift.
The Plant Technician will provide on-site operations and technical support for a renewable natural gas plant. You will work directly for the Plant Manager under the supervision and guidance of the Plant Technician Supervisor. Your responsibilities will include the commissioning and safely operating equipment for all production processes performed at the biogas facility. You will also coordinate and enforce plant safety protocols and production rules and regulations. Additionally, you will monitor, document, and troubleshoot biogas operation per established procedures.
Key Responsibilities
  • List and oversee daily operations of plant to ensure all production, financial, and safety goals are met
  • Provide technical assistance (i.e. interpret drawings, recommend construction methods and equipment, etc.)
  • Implement and maintain tight quality control issues
  • Assist the Amp Americas team in developing and implementing project procedures, management tools, standards, etc.
  • Commission, test, and operate plant post construction to ensure plant passes Operation Acceptance Tests (OATs)
  • Drive a company vehicle to multiple plant locations and where otherwise instructed by the Plant Manager
  • Learn, understand, and comply with plant safety rules and regulations at all times
  • Hold self and others accountable for safe operations, wear required PPE, and actively participate in regular safety training and testing
  • Safely operate production equipment and systems for all products manufactured by the Company according to established procedures
  • Monitor efficiency of production processes via computerized systems and visual inspection of large equipment that can be very hot, heavy, under pressure, and at elevated heights
  • Learn and completely understand sequence of plant operations, purpose, and implications of control systems, source/destination of piping, and how operations of each impact other areas in the Company
  • Perform plant inspections including walking through the entire plant on each shift while looking and listening for equipment and process problems
  • Perform quality control tests and log accurate results according to established procedures
  • Make extra checks on problem areas and adjust as needed for optimization of plant through-put
  • Keep up-to-the-minute logs of activities, shutdowns, abnormal operations, troubleshooting, and problem areas
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product
  • Interpret company policies and enforce safety regulations
  • React quickly to problem situations and to directions given by management
  • Willing to work shifts as directed by Plant Manager
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned by management

Required Skills / Abilities / Qualifications
  • Associate's degree, vocational technical diploma, or equivalent technical experience (required)
  • Valid/active driver's license (required)
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a team member
  • Strong multi-tasking skills
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Experience working in a process production environment or natural gas industry with the understanding of process flow is highly desirable
  • Certifications in forklift and man-lift operation is preferred
  • Has basic computer skills for navigating spreadsheets and entering production data
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Experience in (Fiix) work order management system is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience handling process equipment is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing & operations is preferred
  • Reside no further than 30 miles from facilities

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Able to use basic handheld instruments
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Able to climb fixed and movable ladders up to 35 feet high
  • Ability to use basic hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, electric drills, impact wrenches, shovels, brooms, etc.)
  • Able to perform basic maintenance duties proficiently (replace/repair wear parts in machinery, adjust equipment, open/close tanks and heat exchangers, etc.)
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces as needed (varies from daily to infrequently) and overhead work (reaching overhead and/or working on elevated equipment, etc.)
  • Ability to repetitively lift/bend/kneel/walk/climb daily, depending on plant operation issues and work to be done
  • Willingness to wear and appropriately use all required personal protective equipment (safety glasses, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection, hard hats, etc.)

Compensation:
  • Bonus pay based on production paid out monthly and quarterly
