CONTRACT POSITION(S): Registered Dietitian - K-12 Certification Program
LOCATION: Remote
JOB TYPE: Contract
PRIMARY POINT OF CONTACT: Director, K-12 Nutrition Standards
THE ROLE
We are seeking Registered Dietitians to conduct assessments of K-12 school foodservice programs using Eat Real Standards and assessment tools. Registered Dietitians work closely with the Director, K-12 Nutrition Standards, the Program Manager assigned to each district, and a network of fellow Eat Real Registered Dietitians. This is a remote, part-time contract position, with hours varying based on district assignments.
As independent third-party assessors, Registered Dietitians play a critical role in maintaining the credibility of Eat Real Certification through objective evaluation, sound professional judgment, and rigorous application of Eat Real Standards. They are responsible for ensuring data integrity and assessing school meal programs with consistency, accuracy, and fidelity to the certification methodology.
As an Eat Real Registered Dietitian, you will join a community of school nutrition professionals dedicated to advancing transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in K-12 school food programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct Eat Real Certification assessments for assigned school districts, including documentation review, menu and program data entry, data validation, score verification, and report development.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings related to the certification process, including district meetings and internal check-ins.
  • Collaborate with Eat Real staff and district stakeholders to communicate assessment results and support follow-up activities.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to improve assessment processes, tools, and program effectiveness.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) with experience in K-12 school foodservice and a strong working knowledge of USDA School Breakfast Program (SBP) and National School Lunch Program (NSLP) requirements.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting K-12 foodservice documentation, including production records, recipes, product specification sheets, and nutrition information.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate compliance against defined standards and apply professional judgment to complex or ambiguous scenarios.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Drive, Sheets, Docs, Slides) and virtual collaboration tools.
  • Ability to perform data entry, quality assurance, filtering, sorting, and basic formula functions in Google Sheets.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to clearly document findings, rationale, and recommendations in written reports.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Direct experience conducting or supporting K-12 Administrative Reviews or similar compliance assessments.
  • Knowledge of K-12 food procurement, product sourcing, and supply chain practices.
  • Experience using data visualization and reporting platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
  • Availability to travel to school districts as needed.

WORK SCHEDULE:
  • Capacity to work up to 15 hours/week during busiest period (typically during the months of October - December and March - June)
    • All work can be completed remotely and mostly during flexible hours
    • Total hours will vary based on number of school districts assigned
  • Ability to attend remote meetings (phone and/or Zoom) with Eat Real staff and/or school district personnel with advanced notice

COMPENSATION:
This is a remote, part-time independent contractor position with a one-year contract term with the potential for renewal. Compensation is $70 per hour. Hours will vary throughout the contract period based on district assignments and assessment workload. Approved travel expenses related to district site visits will be reimbursed in accordance with Eat Real policies.
