Position Description
Job Summary: A Pipe Layer is r esponsible for laying and joining concrete, plastic, or cast-iron pipe for drains, sewers, and water mains. This includes rigging pipe for hoisting, setting pipe to grade and affixing the pipe joint. Prepare and grade the trenches either manually or by communicating with onsite equipment operators. The Pipe Layer position requires manual labor as well as assisting other crew members as necessary with hands-on work.
Position Requirements
Essential Functions, skills and abilities:
  • Work cooperatively with the crew to accomplish tasks.
  • Lay and join pipe for drains, sewer and water lines - rigging pipe, setting pipe and affixing pipe to joints.
  • Maintain tools and equipment so that they are kept in good working order and are safe for use.
  • Participate in training and other forms of development to strengthen technical, safety and other skills.
  • Operate construction equipment as required.
  • Consistently monitor and maintain compliance with all safety policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment to include equipment operated.
  • Perform a variety of general labor tasks as required for the job.
  • Other duties as required.

Physical Condition:
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities such as: heavy lifting and climbing, operating motorized equipment and vehicles, work in confined spaces, work at heights, work around heavy construction equipment.
  • Maintain effective audio/visual judgement and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties.
