Arconic is seeking a General Mechanic to join our Aluminum Extrusion (AEX) business unit in Lafayette, IN.

Responsibilities
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Be willing to work a fixed or rotating 24X7 work schedule (8- or 12-hour shifts). You may be required to work evenings, nights, holidays, and overtime.
Primary Functions of the Job
• Design, fabricate, install, repair, modify and maintain machines, equipment, structures and facilities.
Materials Used, Processed and Handled
• Machine parts, metal stock, pins, tubing, fittings, mechanical hardware, compressed gases, oil, grease, paint, acids, fiber optics, specialty metals.
Tools and Equipment
• Tools common to the craft of millwright, pipefitter, welder, layout person, rigger, and blacksmith, such as drill press, saws, abrasive cutoff wheel, grinders and shears.
• Pipe fitting equipment.
• Welding and burning equipment.
• Hoists
• Cranes
• Non-destructive testing equipment.
• Personal computer; PLC terminals.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
  • Satisfactorily pass a comprehensive online and hands-on skills test.
  • Pass a physical examination, drug screen test and background check.
  • The minimum requirements are 5 years Journey person experience or equivalent maintaining heavy equipment with a working knowledge of welding, machine repair, millwright, hydraulics, sheet metal, pipe fitting, and blueprints.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an approved apprentice program or have formal technical training beyond high school. Or a Journeyman's card (A Department of Labor Certificate or Equal). Testing and a skills demonstration will be required. Permanent employment subject to probation period not to exceed 6 months.
  • If you are currently working as a general mechanic, proof of experience and/or a copy of your Journeyman's card must accompany your bid.
