Job description

SUMMARY

Layout, assemble, install, or maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, or related hydraulic or pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, or industrial production or processing systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications.
  • Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Select pipe sizes, types, or related materials, such as supports, hangers, or hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading.
  • Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  • Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, or threading joints.
  • Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints.
  • Turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches.
  • Cut, thread, or hammer pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders.
  • Remove and replace worn components.
  • Inspect work sites for obstructions and to ensure that holes will not cause structural weakness.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

3+ years related pipe fitting experience. Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license and have acceptable driving record that allows insurability under Earthscapes’ insurance plan.  Good verbal and reading skills, including the ability to read and apply the project plans and specifications, and installation instructions and clearly communicate with customers, suppliers, and other employees.  Work within industry standards of accuracy.  Possess a mechanical aptitude.  Make decisions based on measurable criteria.  Visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings.  Requires exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, confining workspace, electrical hazards, chemicals, dust, and mechanical hazards.  Work easily and skillfully with hands.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and to use hands to type, handle, or feel and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 60 pounds frequently.
