What are Pinons?

Pinons, also spelled piñons or pinyons, are a type of pine tree native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, known for producing edible pine nuts. These trees are valued for their hardiness in arid climates and are an important part of regional ecosystems and cultures. The nuts harvested from pinon trees are used in cooking and are a traditional food source for many Indigenous peoples. In addition to their culinary use, pinon wood is often used for firewood because of its pleasant aroma when burned.

Job description

Job ID: IHS-3128-01

We’re seeking a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to provide outpatient clinical care in Pinon, Arizona (Navajo County). This locum tenens opportunity offers a potential for a long-term contract and involves a standard weekday schedule—Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours/week)—with no on-call responsibilities.

You’ll care for patients aged 5 and older across the full pediatric and adolescent spectrum, delivering 100% direct patient care. Telephonic consultations are part of the role, and telehealth may be authorized in emergent situations if you already have a secure phone and internet connection. Hospital privileges are required; temporary privileges can be arranged. Travel, lodging, and malpractice insurance are provided.

Key requirements:

  • Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
  • Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Current, unrestricted DEA registration (Schedules II–V)
  • NPI number
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
  • Minimum of 6 months recent psychiatry clinical experience

If you’re comfortable working in an outpatient setting with a diverse pediatric/adolescent population and meet these qualifications, this position offers a stable schedule and institutional support in a rural community setting.
