We have an opening for Pickle House Operator on 3rd shift at Ferguson.

This is an interviewed position. Employees who meet the qualifications for the Pickle House Operator position but have not met their time in department requirement (if applicable to their current position), will still be considered for this position. Mon - Fri 11p - 7a (day based on clock out times)

Sun 11p - Mon 7a | Mon 11p - Tues 7a |Tues 11p - Wed 7a| Wed 11p - Thurs 7a | Thurs 11p - Fri 7a

Overview:

Ensure efficient operation of equipment in order to produce material that meets the specifications and quality required by Fort Wayne Metals and our customers.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • 1 year of manufacturing experience is required. Hands-on technical experience, including but not limited to mechanical, machine shop, fabrication, audio-visual, quality control/assurance, maintenance, inspection, or engineering experience may be considered in lieu of manufacturing.
  • Previous experience in a production environment and working with harsh chemicals/acid preferred.
  • Must obtain a forklift operator's license.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate machinery and monitor flow of material through the Ferguson Pickle House.
  • Maintain accurate chemical logbook.
  • Act as a resource for operating procedures of the wastewater treatment equipment and the air quality equipment/fume scrubber. Trouble shoot problems with equipment, as necessary.
  • Act as a first line inspector for the quality of product coming from the Pickle House.
  • Follow proper use of all required personal protective equipment for the Pickle House
  • Monitor visitors into the Pickle House in order to maintain a safe work environment; enforce proper PPE with team members.
  • Comply with the Pickle House environmental regulatory requirements as directed by the Regulatory Compliance department.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Skills Needed:

  • Ability to perform basic computer functions.
  • Possess intermediate math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude, preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good hand dexterity, preferred.
  • Understand and apply safe work practices.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Fast-paced production environment.
  • Work hours consist of 40 hours per week.
  • Overtime may sometimes be required.
  • Exposure to Phosphoric, Nitric, Hydrofluoric, and Sulfuric Acids, ti-coat, precoat, caustic soda, MSP, and Sodium Bifluoride
  • Appropriate PPE must be worn where posted and required.
  • Exposure to fluctuating temperatures may occur.
  • Average weights in production range from 10-25 lbs. Maximum weights may exceed 75-80 lbs. on occasion, assist devices in place for larger weights.
  • Moving (pushing / pulling) material on booms multiple times throughout the day. Wire Booms hold a max weight of 1,000 lbs.(Boom weighs 400 lbs plus a max of 600 lbs of wire).
  • Occasional lifting of up to 60 pounds unassisted or with assistance.
  • Substantial reaching, bending, and pulling during shift.
  • Must be able to access all areas of operation, including second floors.
