Job description

Summary

Program, test, and commission Level 1 control systems for new installations of Pickle Lines (Rolling Mill Equipment) and other applications in the metals industry.   As a Level 1 Engineer, you will play a critical role in delivering world-class automation solutions for rolling mill installations across global markets, working within a collaborative engineering team at the forefront of metals industry technology. 

  • Willing to travel to support the project work. Integration test will be 6 months in Germany, commissioning will be 3-5 years in Louisiana, USA

What you’ll do

  • Design and implementation of Level 1 control systems based on project requirements, SMS standards and similar reference projects 
  • Perform Level 1 control system programming based on the function descriptions for the equipment related to the project 
  • Collaborate with project management, mechanical, and Level 2 engineering teams 
  • Participate in integration testing of the control system before shipment to the job site 
  • Conduct on site commissioning and startup of Level 1 control systems for new plant installations 
  • Train customer personnel in maintenance and troubleshooting 
  • Service existing systems remotely and on-site interfacing with internal engineers and resources from other groups and locations 
  • Supervision received is mostly administrative, with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits 

What you’ll need 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an engineering role in metals or a similar industry 
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers 
  • Experience with Logicad and/or Siemens TIA Portal preferred 
  • Pickle Line and/or Rolling Mill process knowledge preferred
  • Willing to travel to support the project work. Integration test will be 6 months in Germany, commissioning will be 3-5 years in Louisiana, USA 
  • Problem solving skills especially while under time pressure during commissioning
