Summary:
The Cherry Picker harvests cherries by hand while wearing a harness with an 18-quart plastic bucket (approximately 2 lbs.). This role requires frequent ladder use to access fruit throughout the tree. The cherry harvest season typically runs 6 to 8 weeks, from June through August.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Harvest cherries by hand and place them into the provided bucket.
• Safely and frequently climb ladders throughout the workday.
• Follow all safety procedures and food hygiene standards.
• Inspect bins prior to dumping and remove any contaminants, including:
o Branches
o Leaves
o Bird droppings or other debris
• Follow instructions from the Operational Team Leader and supervisors.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Must be at least 12 years old.
• Must complete required training provided by Orchard View, Inc.
• Ability to understand verbal instructions in Spanish and/or English and read warning signs and labels.
• Must have reliable transportation to assigned work locations.
Working Conditions:
• Work typically begins at 5:00 AM.
• Schedule may include Monday through Sunday workdays.
• Minors will be scheduled at least one day off per week.
• Employees may work up to 10 hours per day and 60 hours per week.
• Regular exposure to outdoor orchard environments, including dirt, debris, odors, and noise.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, and stretch for extended periods.
• Frequent kneeling, crouching, bending, and ladder climbing.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, temperatures, and uneven terrain.
• Must be able to use both hands to safely climb ladders and pick fruit.
• Must wear appropriate, clean clothing and footwear suitable for working conditions; clothing must be free of rips, tears, or loose fabric that could pose a safety risk.
