Job description

Are you a market-savvy underwriting professional with a passion for building relationships and driving profitable growth? Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is looking for a dynamic Professional Liability Underwriter to join our Miscellaneous and Construction PI Underwriting team. If you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and love the art of the deal - this role is for you.

About the Role

As a Professional Liability Underwriter on our Miscellaneous and Construction PI team, you will play a central role in shaping and growing a high-performing portfolio of professional liability risks. You'll be at the intersection of underwriting excellence and market engagement - analyzing complex risks, negotiating terms, and building the kind of trusted broker relationships that drive long-term business success. This is a role for someone who brings both technical depth and an entrepreneurial spirit to everything they do.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of Miscellaneous and Construction Professional Liability risks with a focus on profitability and portfolio quality
  • Develop and nurture strong, lasting relationships with retail and wholesale broker partners to generate a consistent flow of quality submissions
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities that align with Swiss Re's underwriting strategy and appetite
  • Analyze risk exposures, pricing adequacy, coverage structures, and policy terms to deliver well-reasoned underwriting decisions
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers and clients while maintaining sound underwriting discipline and risk selection standards
  • Collaborate closely with claims, actuarial, and underwriting colleagues to monitor and support overall portfolio performance
  • Monitor market trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging developments within the professional liability landscape
  • Represent Swiss Re Corporate Solutions in the marketplace through broker meetings, industry events, and client engagement activities

About the Team

The Miscellaneous and Construction PI Underwriting team is a focused and energetic group dedicated to underwriting profitable professional liability business across a diverse range of miscellaneous and construction-related risks. The team works closely with broker partners to generate quality submissions and build long-term, mutually beneficial relationships in the professional liability marketplace. Collaborative by nature and driven by results, this team plays a key role in Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' continued growth and market presence.

About You

You are a relationship-oriented underwriting professional who brings market credibility, sound judgment, and a genuine enthusiasm for business development. You're energized by broker engagement, enjoy solving complex risk challenges, and take pride in contributing to a high-performing, inclusive team culture. You balance analytical rigor with an entrepreneurial mindset - and you're always looking for the next opportunity to grow the book.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • 5+ years of Professional Liability underwriting experience, with a strong track record of sound risk selection and portfolio management
  • Demonstrated expertise in underwriting Miscellaneous Professional Liability and/or Construction Professional Liability risks
  • Established broker network within the professional liability insurance marketplace, with a proven ability to develop and grow profitable broker relationships
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills, with the ability to assess complex risk exposures, evaluate pricing adequacy, and structure coverage solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate underwriting positions and build trust with internal and external stakeholders

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Experience working with both retail and wholesale broker distribution channels
  • Familiarity with emerging trends and evolving risk landscapes within the professional liability space
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly in a dynamic, fast-moving market environment
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a collaborative and proactive approach to business development
  • Experience representing an insurer or reinsurer at industry events and in client-facing settings

The estimated base salary range for this position is $168,000 to $252,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role, will take into account many factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short- and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
