WCC is actively recruiting for part time physics instructors to teach on campus for upcoming semesters.
Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is seeking a Part Time Physics Instructor to teach Physics (PHY) credit courses on campus. Needs may become available prior to or during each semester. Upon successful submission of your application, cover letter, resume, and transcripts, you will be considered for teaching opportunities on a per course basis. All courses will be taught on campus only.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain an environment conducive to student learning.
  • Prepare for and instruct assigned course(s) through the use of appropriate learning experiences and materials as assigned by the appropriate lead physics faculty which provide the opportunity to meet overall course objectives and program goals.
  • Adhere to course syllabus and submission of any data needed to complete assessment reports as directed by lead physics faculty.
  • Evaluate student progress through day-to-day evaluation, written examinations and overall observation.
  • Prepare and grade exams, assignments, and/or lab reports in a meaningful way to promote continued student growth, returning graded assignments to students in a timely manner, and assigning midterm and final grades for all students, meeting all institutional deadlines for completion.
  • Actively support student success through guidance, advising and assisting individual students as needed.
  • Participate in professional activities including, but not limited to, lab training sessions, data collection for course assessment, examination development, and other professional planning activities.
  • Encourage students to complete the Student Opinion Questionnaires (SOQs).
  • Maintain levels of professional knowledge and expertise, including compliance training.
  • Adhere to and support all departmental policies and procedures.
  • Utilize technology, including AI-enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support teaching, learning, student engagement, professional responsibilities, institutional service, and other responsibilities. Use such technologies in a manner consistent with academic standards, professional ethics, confidentiality requirements, and compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule: Schedules vary according to class schedules. The terms of employment are based on college enrollment and class enrollment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Earned Master's degree or higher from a regionally-accredited institution in Physics or Engineering discipline relevant to teaching assignment OR master's degree in related field with minimum 18 graduate credits in Physics or relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Teaching experience required.โ€ข
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology relevant to the discipline and faculty role, including the capacity to learn and appropriately utilize emerging AI-supported tools. Ability to evaluate the accuracy, reliability, and appropriateness of AI-generated content; maintain confidentiality where required; exercise professional and academic judgment; and uphold ethical standards in the use of technology for teaching, learning, and service.
