What is a physician informatics?
A Physician Informatics job involves leveraging medical knowledge and technology to improve healthcare operations, patient outcomes, and data management. These professionals work at the intersection of medicine and information systems, helping to develop, implement, and optimize electronic health records (EHRs) and other digital tools. They collaborate with IT teams, clinicians, and administrators to enhance clinical workflows, ensure data accuracy, and support evidence-based decision-making. Their role is critical in improving efficiency, reducing errors, and advancing healthcare innovation through technology.
What are the typical daily responsibilities of a physician informatics?
A Physician Informatics professional often collaborates with both clinical staff and IT teams to optimize the use of electronic health records (EHRs) and other digital healthcare tools. Daily tasks may include analyzing clinical workflows, developing and testing system enhancements, providing user training, and troubleshooting technology-related issues. They also participate in multidisciplinary meetings to gather feedback, ensure regulatory compliance, and support quality improvement initiatives. This balance of technical and clinical work ensures healthcare technology effectively meets the needs of providers and patients.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a physician informatics?
To thrive as a Physician Informatics professional, you need a strong clinical background (typically an MD or DO), expertise in health informatics, and experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems. Familiarity with technical tools such as Epic, Cerner, or other EHR platforms, as well as certifications like Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS), are highly valued. Job description
Working at Yale means contributing to a better tomorrow. Whether you are a current resident of our New Haven-based community, eligible for opportunities through the New Haven Hiring Initiative, or a newcomer, interested in exploring all that Yale has to offer, your talents and contributions are welcome. Discover your opportunities at Yale!
In 1971, Yale University established Yale Health to provide health services to its facility, staff and students through a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus. Yale Health members include students, staff, faculty and their families who come from every state in the country and almost every country in the world. With over 50 years of service to the Yale community, our facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, an Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.
Yale Health is seeking an experienced, board-certified physician with formal training or experience in clinical informatics to serve in a hybrid Physician Informaticist role. This 1.0 FTE position consists of 0.5 FTE clinical practice in one of Yale Health's primary care service lines (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, OB/GYN, or Pediatrics) and 0.5 FTE dedicated to clinical informatics leadership under the direction of the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO).
