Job description

Northland Controls is seeking a well-qualified Application Engineer to support enterprise physical security systems for a key regional client in Rochester, NY. This role is responsible for providing technical support, system maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure the reliable operation of access control, CCTV, and related security systems in alignment with Northland standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support and maintenance for regional access control, CCTV, and integrated security systems
  • Program, test, commission, and support system installations and upgrades
  • Support local alarm centers, biometric systems, and key management solutions
  • Perform system health checks, preventative maintenance, and remote diagnostics
  • Troubleshoot PACS, VMS, and related applications through helpdesk and ticketing systems
  • Maintain workstation images and support peripheral devices
  • Support system/network connectivity and perform basic LAN/WAN troubleshooting
  • Ensure smooth transition of sites from installation to live monitoring
  • Complete site sanity checks and support project handovers
  • Create and maintain accurate system documentation and handover materials
  • Contribute to system upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide occasional after-hours support as required
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in the security systems industry or equivalent role
  • Strong experience with access control and CCTV systems, including installation, commissioning, and support
  • Experience with PACS and VMS systems, including configuration and troubleshooting
  • Experience with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic knowledge of IT networking (LAN/WAN, cloud-based systems) preferred
  • Experience with helpdesk systems and ticket/issue management
  • Lenel certification preferred (Master Certification a plus)
  • Experience with Milestone CCTV, biometrics (e.g., Alcatraz AI), and key management systems (e.g., Keywatcher, Traka) preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
