Job description

Job Title: Plant Manager


Department: ND Packaging


Reports to: General Manager


Location: Langhorne, PA


Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and dependable Plant Manager with experience leading production teams and an entrepreneurial spirit. This position is responsible for ensuring the continuous operation and maintenance of equipment and systems critical to daily production.


Compensation

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At ND Paper, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.

Key Responsibilities & Expected Results:

  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.
  • Achieve desired results in safety by demonstrating personal commitment and leading safety processes to sustain a safe work environment.
  • Implement and coordinate department safety education and processes in accordance with best practices and policies.
  • Lead production teams to ensure all business objectives are met.
  • Lead machine center expectation process (KPIs, housekeeping, lean activities).
  • Ensure company assets and physical plant are secure and well maintained.
  • Achieve desired results in quality, on time delivery and productivity by leading process reliability efforts to ensure lowest cost, best quality with high return on assets.
  • Minimize waste within the department by driving awareness, training and accountability.
  • Drive maximum throughput within the department by reducing set up times and increasing uptimes and machine speeds.
  • Support culture that promotes engagement and teamwork.
  • Ensure there is a strong focus on housekeeping within and outside the facility.
  • Identify equipment issues and coordinate necessary maintenance activities (including preventative).
  • Ensure the facility is maintained both from a repair and general maintenance perspective (snow removal, landscaping, parking lot, etc.).
  • Responsible for ensuring that he/her and the production team accurately report all metrics and labor.
  • Ability to lead problem solving and lean processes to address operational and quality issues.
  • Ensure effective labor utilization and efficiencies by optimizing employee scheduling, employee cross training and limiting overtime.
  • Ensure all appropriate environmental regulations and permitting requirements are compliant.
  • Determine daily/ weekly staffing levels required to meet production requirements
  • Ensure that expenses for the production and maintenance departments are within budget.
  • Coach and develop supervisors and hourly employees to maximize their effectiveness.
  • Coach and mentor, evaluate, train and develop members of the production leadership team.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, evaluations and one-on-one meetings with production leadership and hourly team members.
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure adequate staffing is met through recruitment.
  • Lead and support the pay for skills process including but not limited to training and development and adequate backup.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Industrial Management, or related field required or equivalent work experience.
  • At least four years of experience required in management in a corrugated box environment.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Mandarin, spoken and written, strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
