How much do physical ai jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 5, 2026, the average yearly pay for physical ai in the United States is $81,521.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $59,000.00 and $99,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How can I get into physical AI?

To pursue a career in physical AI, develop skills in robotics, machine learning, and sensor integration through relevant degrees such as computer science or engineering. Gaining experience with programming languages like Python and tools such as ROS (Robot Operating System) can be beneficial, along with hands-on projects or internships in robotics labs or companies. Certifications in AI or robotics can also enhance your qualifications for roles in this field.

Can AI do physical jobs?

Physical AI refers to robotic systems and automation technologies designed to perform physical tasks traditionally done by humans. These systems are used in manufacturing, logistics, and other industries to handle tasks such as assembly, transportation, and material handling, often requiring sensors, actuators, and programming skills. While AI enables robots to adapt and improve performance, most physical jobs still require human oversight and intervention for complex or unpredictable tasks.

What is a $900000 AI job?

A $900,000 AI job typically refers to high-level positions in artificial intelligence, such as AI research directors, senior machine learning engineers, or executive roles, which offer compensation in that range due to expertise, experience, and the complexity of the work. These roles often require advanced skills in programming, data analysis, and familiarity with AI frameworks, along with a strong educational background and industry experience.

What is the difference between Physical Ai vs Robotics Technician?

AspectPhysical AiRobotics Technician
Required CredentialsTypically a degree in AI, computer science, or related fieldUsually a degree or certification in robotics, electronics, or mechatronics
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, AI development companies, tech firmsManufacturing plants, repair shops, industrial settings
Industry UsageDeveloping intelligent systems that mimic physical tasksMaintaining and repairing robotic systems in various industries
Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

Physical Ai focuses on creating intelligent systems that can perform physical tasks using artificial intelligence, often in research or development settings. Robotics Technicians, on the other hand, specialize in maintaining, repairing, and installing robotic systems in industrial environments. While both roles involve working with physical systems, Physical Ai emphasizes AI development, whereas Robotics Technicians focus on hardware and system upkeep.

What companies are doing physical AI?

Several companies are developing physical AI technologies, including Boston Dynamics, which creates advanced robots like Spot and Atlas, and SoftBank Robotics, known for humanoid robots such as Pepper and NAO. These companies focus on robotics, automation, and AI integration for industrial, service, and research applications.

Job description

Job Summary:
Scale AI is the data engine for the entire AI industry, focused on building general AI that can reason and act in the physical world. The Technical Lead Manager will lead a team of Research Engineers to develop and evaluate Large-Scale Foundation Models for Physical AI, bridging the gap between machine learning research and physical robot deployment.
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Direct research into scaling laws for Physical AI, determining how to best utilize massive datasets for pre-training and fine-tuning generalist policies.
โ€ข Develop novel methods for developing and evaluating models, including new Physical AI industry benchmarks
โ€ข Actively write code to implement, train and test SOTA architectures. Conduct research on Physical AI data collection, cross-embodiment training, and policy fine-tuning.
โ€ข Collaborate with internal labeling teams to design "robotic-native" data pipelines, including the use of VLMs for automated trajectory annotation and data synthesis.
โ€ข Collaborate closely with customers to drive the industry forward in using Scale data
โ€ข Lead and grow a team of 4-6 elite Physical AI researchers, fostering a culture of high-velocity experimentation and rigorous evaluation.
โ€ข Translate the latest research from NeurIPS, ICRA, and CVPR into production-ready features for Scaleโ€™s Physical AI partners.
โ€ข Work with cross-functional teams (e.g Product and Operations) to bring our research breakthroughs into production.
Qualifications:
Required:
โ€ข Expert-level proficiency in PyTorch, with deep knowledge of Transformer architectures, Attention mechanisms, and Self-Supervised Learning.
โ€ข Proven track record of working with Vision-Language Models (e.g., CLIP, PaLM-E) and adapting them for spatial reasoning or embodied tasks.
โ€ข Experience with Diffusion Models for sequence generation or Generative World Models for predictive modeling.
โ€ข Strong understanding of Physical AI stack, including imitation learning, reinforcement learning (RL), and multi-modal sensor fusion.
โ€ข Experience with large-scale distributed training across GPU clusters and high-performance data loading.
โ€ข 1+ years of experience leading technical teams or projects in a research-intensive environment.
Preferred:
โ€ข First-author publications at top-tier AI/ML conferences (NeurIPS, CVPR, ICRA, CoRL).
โ€ข Experience building models that work across different robot types (arms, mobile bases, humanoids).
โ€ข Experience with high-fidelity simulators (e.g., Isaac Gym, MuJoCo) and the nuances of physical domain adaptation.
Company:
Scaleโ€™s mission is to develop reliable AI systems for the worldโ€™s most important decisions. Founded in 2016, the company is headquartered in San Francisco, USA, with a team of 501-1000 employees. The company is currently Late Stage.
