Job Description:

Madison College is hiring a full-time (40 hours per week/38 weeks per year) position of Lab Coordinator supporting our Applied Arts classes. This position ensures effective day-to-day operation of instructional laboratory and production studio spaces while serving in a vital student-centered support role. Responsibilities include assembling and maintaining lab equipment, coordinating lab activities and events, providing technical support and troubleshooting for Mac operating systems and instructional technology, supporting faculty and students with Adobe Creative Cloud applications and specialized software, maintaining safety compliance and operational guidelines, and overseeing inventory and procurement. The role directly supports hands-on learning by creating well-maintained, safe, and accessible lab environments, and provides peer-to-peer tutoring oversight ensuring students have access to resources needed for educational success. Additionally, this position collaborates with other departments on production requests including promotional videos, how-to content, and educational training tools, and coordinates program events such as portfolio shows and career days. The ideal candidate possesses proficiency in Mac operating systems, Adobe Creative Cloud applications and video and audio production with the ability to understand complex processes and learn new technologies quickly and efficiently. Candidates should be highly organized, tech-savvy, and thrive in a dynamic, student-centered academic environment. Programs generally supported by this position are Video Audio Design, Graphic Design, User Experience/Interaction Design and Animation. This position also collaborates with our Photography Lab Coordinator.

Position Details:

Expected Progression: This position includes an expected progression plan. Upon meeting the outlined criteria, you will be eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour increase.

Schedule: This position generally works 40 hours per week during the academic year (38, nonconsecutive weeks). General working hours are 8:00-4:30, M-F with some evenings and weekends as needed.

Benefits: This position is considered full-time with excellent full-time benefits (some may be prorated), including health/vision/dental/life insurance options and participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).

Start Date: Ideal start date is August 13th, 2026.

Responsibilities:

Lab and Classroom Support

  • Assemble, prepare, and arrange required materials, models, and equipment for student and faculty use
  • Maintain and organize classrooms, laboratories, production studios, and storage areas in neat and orderly fashion
  • Provide consistent support in production studios, ensuring proper equipment availability, functionality, and usage
  • Operate and maintain production studio facilities and equipment
  • Address student issues as they arise in laboratory settings

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

  • Serve as first point of contact for instructional technology issues (iMac Desktops, A/V technology, printers, software, student laptops)
  • Troubleshoot software, computers, and production equipment quickly to minimize learning disruptions
  • Provide onsite Mac operating system support to instructors and students in classrooms
  • Assist in submitting and following up on IT help desk tickets
  • Populate and maintain TV monitors with approved college and program-specific content
  • Provide event troubleshooting support to ensure successful completion of events

Production Collaboration

  • Work and consult closely with other departments on approved promotional requests and educational training tools
  • Support marketing and student services departments with scheduling and using production facilities
  • Collaborate with campus events team and off-campus groups for production needs

Student Centered Support

  • Manage peer-to-peer tutoring program and lab facilities management
  • Assist video, audio, graphic design, user experience & interaction design, students and faculty with equipment and software
  • Provide expert instruction on Adobe Creative Cloud applications and specialized program software
  • Teach proper use of audio and video production equipment and techniques
  • Train students and faculty in new and existing equipment operation
  • Provide solutions to student and faculty questions regarding equipment standards

Inventory and Procurement Management

  • Monitor inventory and supplies for Applied Arts programs
  • Support procurement process of goods, services, and materials
  • Distribute and dispense supplies and equipment for student laboratory use
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance of lab equipment

Event Coordination

  • Coordinate program events including portfolio shows, career days, and student mixers
  • Set dates, times, and manage marketing efforts (including social media)
  • Ensure successful completion of all program events
  • Coordinate catering orders for on-site events
  • Coordinate advisory board meeting details and logistics
  • Collaborate with campus events team and off-campus entities

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficiency in Mac or Similar Operating systems and Adobe Creative Cloud Applications. Experience with or ability to quickly learn, video and audio production.
  • Ability to understand complex processes and learn new technologies quickly and efficiently
  • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, laboratory operations, equipment maintenance, and safety procedures
  • Skills in troubleshooting, maintaining, and coordinating equipment repairs
  • Ability to develop and implement lab procedures, safety protocols, and operational guidelines
  • Knowledge of inventory management, procurement processes, and budget oversight
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations, contributing to safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree or higher.
  • 1 - 3+ years of relevant work experience in one of the following areas: Video Audio Design, Graphic Design, Software, User Experience/Interaction Design, Web & Digital Media or similar.
