What is a Photogrammetry job?

A photogrammetry job involves using photography to create precise 3D models and maps of objects, environments, or terrains. Professionals in this field analyze images from drones, satellites, or cameras to extract measurements and spatial data. They work in industries like surveying, architecture, archaeology, gaming, and virtual reality. Photogrammetrists use specialized software to process images and create detailed reconstructions for various applications. Strong technical skills in imaging, GIS, and 3D modeling are essential for this role.

What typical daily tasks and responsibilities can I expect as a photogrammetrist?

As a photogrammetrist, your daily responsibilities usually include processing aerial or satellite imagery, generating maps and 3D models, and ensuring data accuracy through detailed analysis. You'll often collaborate with surveyors, GIS specialists, and engineers to support construction, urban planning, or environmental projects. Quality control, documentation, and communicating technical findings to non-experts are regular parts of the job. The role often requires both fieldwork (such as collecting geospatial data) and office-based analysis using specialized software, offering a dynamic and varied workday.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Photogrammetry position, and why are they important?

To thrive in photogrammetry, you need a solid background in mathematics, geography, and spatial analysis, typically supported by a degree in geomatics, surveying, or a related field. Familiarity with photogrammetric software (such as Agisoft Metashape or Pix4D), GIS platforms, CAD tools, and knowledge of remote sensing technologies is crucial, and some employers may prefer professional certifications in geospatial sciences. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help distinguish top performers. These competencies are essential for producing high-quality spatial data and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams in mapping and surveying projects.

The position is based in Dallas, Texas, with hybrid work flexibility in accordance with the Spectral Employee Handbook guidelines. This position will assist in the integration of computer vision algorithms into our Windows-based DeepView AI software. This role focuses on bridging advanced GPU-based reconstruction and segmentation algorithms with a clinical production software system, ensuring performance, stability, and regulatory readiness.
The software engineer will work closely with Data Science, Algorithm, and UI/UX teams to integrate 2D/3D segmentation, point cloud reconstruction, mesh generation, and visualization into a cohesive, multi-threaded GPU-accelerated workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
3D Reconstruction & Visualization Integration
  • Point cloud reconstruction pipelines
  • Mesh generation and texturing workflows
  • OpenGL-based visualization components
Windows Software & C# Integration
  • Integrate GPU-accelerated algorithms into an existing Windows OS-based C# application
  • Coordinate C# application logic with native GPU components (CUDA / TensorRT / OpenGL / Open3D)
  • Support MVVM-based architecture, async workflows, and UI responsiveness
GPU & Multi-Threaded System Design
  • Work with multi-threaded execution models:
  • Background CPU threads for capture, processing, and data management
  • GPU streams for segmentation, reconstruction, and visualization
  • Handle GPU initialization, warm-up, memory allocation, synchronization, and data transfer
  • Coordinate CUDA OpenGL interoperability for real-time visualization
Required Qualifications
  • Solid understanding of 3D math (matrices, vectors, quaternions, transformations), Graphics pipelines, GPU architecture
  • Hands-on experience with one or more graphics APIs: OpenGL, Direct3D, Vulkan or Metal
  • Experience integrating OpenGL/Vulkan with C# via OpenTK, Silk.NET, SharpGL, or custom interop
