Job description

Description
The Role
Let's talk about dust. You know, the fine particulate matter that inevitably litters every indoor surface. It's the apex predator of good, clean photographs. We hate dust. Odds are, you do too. Why else would you be looking at a job ad for a Photo Editor?
Flawless product photography is core to everything that we do. Whether it's on our website, in a marketing email, or blasted out to our two million Twitter followers - in all cases: it needs to be perfect. We've spent the last ten years cultivating an online audience that expects and demands perfection from us. We have no choice but to oblige them.
When those hordes of adoring fans see our flawless photography, they have no idea what kind of work goes into it. Device procurement, product design, manufacturing, lighting and shooting the photo itself... right down to the edit, when all of that pesky dust meets an untimely end. Who do you think is responsible for this critical final piece of the puzzle?
If you answered, "that's me," you're probably wrong. We're not looking for just any Photo Editor - we're looking for the best of the best. Think Michael Jordan, but for photo editors. An individual with a keen eye for detail, impeccable photo cleanup abilities, and both the willingness and ability to keep up with the impossibly high standards that dbrand's Creative Team sets for itself.
Still think that's you? Maybe you're that final piece of puzzle, after all.
The Environment
dbrand thrives where other eCommerce companies have failed because our customers enjoy a revolutionary degree of commitment, engagement, and accessibility from us. Maintaining an internal culture of excellence, the likes of which our highly-engaged audience demands and deserves, is critical to dbrand's current and future success. Our customers deserve no less than the absolute best, and we hold every member of the team to that exacting standard. Surrounded by a diverse team that lives and breathes dbrand, the Photo Editor is tasked with, you guessed it: editing photos. As a member of dbrand's Creative Team, the photo editor is also expected to make meaningful contributions to the creative ideation stage of our product launch cycles, marketing campaigns, and overall visual identity.
So, what's in it for you? Well, unlike most companies, we actually care about the work we're doing. Every time our customers tweet about us, post on our subreddit, or write an adoring email, we're moving one step closer to world domination. Spreading the good word and growing our cult-like audience? That's its own reward. At dbrand, you have the opportunity to create once-in-a-lifetime brand experiences for consumers. If you're someone who's organized, committed, and excited about our mission, to say you'd thrive here would be an understatement.
Before you can get the opportunity to join our passionate, dynamic team and help us grow the cult, you'll need to prove yourself. Let’s see if you’ve got what it takes...

The Characteristics
  • Agile: You’re nimble. You’re adaptable. You thrive in an environment where priorities can change in an instant.
  • Analytical: Your decisions are driven by only one thing: data. You continue to master all the tools necessary to surface insights.
  • Collaborative: You enjoy purposeful meetings. You value the contributions and perspectives of your coworkers as much as those of your CEO.
  • Curious: You’re eager to learn new concepts and master new skills. There’s no tool that’s useless in your arsenal.
  • Disciplined: You never allow the details to slip, understanding that every bit of minutiae forms the bigger picture.
  • Enthusiastic: You exhibit a contagious passion for digital design and user experiences.
  • Innovative: You develop new approaches to complex problems.
  • Perfectionist: You persist until the smallest detail has been optimized. Knows nothing less than 100%.
  • Persistent: You’ve never failed. You’ve only experienced speed bumps on your path to success.
  • Reliable: You live up to both verbal and written agreements. You can be trusted to work effectively, without oversight.

The Responsibilities and Qualifications
In order to make a positive impact as part of our team, your focus in this role will be to:
  • Perform image processing, retouching, and asset delivery to the Creative and Marketing teams.
  • Partner with our Product Photographer and provide critical feedback to further elevate our product photography.
  • Manage on device photography and product preview asset development.
  • Showcase attention to detail by maintaining naming conventions and photo hierarchy.
  • Create additional high-quality product previews for use throughout our ecommerce experience and various outlets.
  • Understand our project pipeline to anticipate future photo needs.
  • Create and maintain convincing product previews for our live product configuration interface, through photo editing.
  • Create and maintain material source assets of all skin materials for use in product and material previews.
If you find a box you can’t check, stop reading and look for a company who demands less from their Photo Editor
  • Extensive proficiency in Photoshop, with focus on photo editing, tone and colour correction, image manipulation and creation of digital assets.
  • Expertise in Illustrator, with focus on editing and manipulating vector graphics.
  • A strong visual sense of compelling photography and photo composition.
  • An impeccable communication style - your grasp on the English language is flawless.
  • Detail-oriented, self-sufficient, resourceful, organized, and proactive.
  • The instinct to help teammates thrive and the openness to learn from past experiences.
  • The ability to solve complex problems (or know where to find the answer).
  • Commitment to long-term growth and learning opportunities.
  • Insights and engagement with the current state of smartphone and mobile technology.
  • Specific experience in product photo editing is considered an asset.

The Moment of Truth
The role starts between $40,000 and $45,000 per year with health, dental, vision, and profit sharing benefits. We’re located a few minutes west of Pearson Airport.
Still think you have what it takes to thrive in our agile, high-growth, fast-paced environment?
To be perfectly honest, we doubt it.

That said, our company was built on the idea that every assumption can be proven wrong. Your move.
