We are currently searching for an experienced Asphalt Plant Operator to join our Baton Rouge Asphalt team of talented employees!
Duties & Responsibilities:
50% Operations
  • Coordinates and assigns the dispatching of trucks in the yard.
  • Communicates on multiple devises, i.e. computer, phone, fax, hand-held and CB radios.
  • Learns how to read multiple types of meters and gauges at specified intervals verify operating conditions.
  • Assists with writing reports and maintaining logbook of asphalt production and maintenance actions taken during shift.
  • Keeps control room clean by performing housekeeping tasks.
  • Maintain a safe environment for he/she self and crew within plant confines.
  • Assesses daily job tasks for potential safety concerns.
  • Communicates with vendors, trucks, operations, plant crew, and supervisor as needed.
  • Safely and efficiently load trucks and process required tickets/paperwork
  • Responsible for creating daily plant schedule based on various mix needs, capacity, and tonnage
  • Collaborate with quality control technicians to ensure the produced asphalt meets required specifications, making adjustments to material blends as needed.
  • Responsible for safely operating and maintaining asphalt plant and construction equipment by:
    • Determining proper quantities of materials needed to produce asphalt
    • Adjusting controls to regulate flow of materials, maintain proper temperature, and speed of systems.
    • Monitoring production levels and adjusting production as needed.
  • Train/mentor new hires as needed.
  • Troubleshoot, problem solve, and successfully discuss production problems with co-workers and Plant Manager.

30% Plant and Equipment
  • Inspects hand tools and equipment for any defects and locks out if defective.
  • Assists crew with required plant or equipment maintenance or repairs, at ground level or elevated.

I.E plant (tighten or replace bolts) conveyors (belts and rollers), change wear items or implements (blades, buckets), electrical (battery, lights, fuses).
  • Performs general maintenance and cleanup on equipment and plant.
  • Perform daily inspections, preventative maintenance, welding, and repairs on machinery

15% Safety and Compliance
  • Follows company policy, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Wears proper PPE for required tasks.
  • Leads TAR daily or change of scope.
  • Performs Stretch and Flex daily.
  • Picks up and places safety devices as needed.
  • Certified in Lockout/ Tagout and Confined Space.

5% Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Advanced:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. This job requires the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders (customers, vendors, management, & crew members) under high stress situations

  • Ability to multi-task and handle high stress situations

Proficient:
  • Use of computer, phone and smart phone, fax, hand-held and CB radios.
  • Reading, two to three syllable words with understanding
  • Writing skills for reports.
  • Process systems in steps.
  • Basic mechanics, welding, and using tools
  • Basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with / or * by tenths (.1) or hundredths (.01)
  • 1 year minimum experience in road or construction field working outdoors.

Physical Requirements:
  • Work more than 40 hours a week, which may include nights and weekends
  • Travel as required and work at different plant locations.
  • Ability to function and work in wet, dry, hot, and cold environments.
  • Lift carry, push or pull 50 lbs. short distances.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Climb up and down ladders.
  • Ability to work at heights (up to 60ft) and in confined spaces
