Position Summary

As a member of the Mercury Training Facility Culinary Team, the Team Sous Chef is responsible for the preparation of meals for players, coaches, and staff throughout the WNBA season. This role plays a key part in fueling performance, ensuring meals meet nutritional standards, and maintaining the highest quality and presentation.

This role pays an hourly rate of $22.00-$25.00

About the Venue

The Mercury Training Facility is the brand-new, state-of-the-art home of the Phoenix Mercury. Purpose-built to support one of the most elite women's basketball programs in the world, the facility is dedicated to providing top-tier training, wellness, and nutrition environments for athletes and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Complete daily meal preparation under the direction of the Executive Chef
  • Execute from-scratch cooking across all areas of meal preparation, with a strong focus on nutrition and dietary requirements
  • Prepare and follow recipes accurately and independently
  • Complete assigned menus in a timely manner, aligned with scheduled meal service times
  • Maintain an A-grade level of cleanliness in kitchen and equipment
  • Follow strict food safety protocols, including FIFO standards (labeling, dating, rotating, screening products)
  • Support the development and execution of new recipes aligned with current food trends and athlete dietary needs
  • Maintain a clean and organized prep/cook station at all times
  • Assist in receiving and organizing deliveries into proper storage (coolers, freezers, dry storage)
  • Adhere to procedures for food handling, serving, and safe storage practices
Qualifications
  • Culinary degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a sous chef or head chef
  • Ability to work 10-12 hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Proficient in operating standard kitchen equipment (broiler, steamer, convection oven, mixer, slicer, chef knives, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused, high-performance environment
  • Able to speak, read, and write in English
  • Valid food handling certificate required (ServSafe preferred)
  • Previous experience in athletic, wellness-focused, or performance dining is a plus
