Lead Phlebotomist
Full-Time Position
Evening Shift (3pm - 11pm), weekends as needed

Job Summary:

  • Performs specific activities as necessary in the hospital & laboratory environment, venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently.
  • Assist technical staff as needed to maintain the process flow.
  • Has thorough knowledge of test requirements; Verifies accuracy of specimen / patient identifiers, ensures the use of correct tube type for the appropriate test.
  • Sets up waived testing, records results & reports those normal interfaced results.
  • Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining clean benches & work areas.
  • Helps with taking inventory & assist with phlebotomy supply ordering.
  • Assists with inspecting & receiving new supplies / reagents, having full understanding of raw materials, rotates old to front & stocks those as they come in.
  • Relies on gained lab experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks. Is self-sufficient, critical thinker & understands when needs to refer matters to the technical staff.
  • Performs a variety of tasks.
  • May lead and direct the work of other phlebotomy staff.
  • Trains new hires & retrains those on work improvement.
  • Strict adherence to SOP to prevent patient care incidents.
  • Typically reports to a lab supervisor or manager of director of lab.

Qualifications:

  • Phlebotomy certification in required.
  • 2+ years of experience in an acute care setting or in a related area.
  • Under direct Lab Technician supervision, performs specified lab tests in Microbiology (plating), Hematology and Urinalysis (specimen uploading).
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities.
  • Provides service to age range from infant to geriatric.
  • Other duties as assigned.
