Make a Difference as a Phlebotomist
As a Phlebotomist at LABTECH DIAGNOSTICS, you'll perform specimen collection for patients of all ages, from newborns to geriatric patients. Because this is a floater position, you'll work at multiple locations and should be comfortable adapting to different environments, schedules, and patient needs.
You'll use your clinical and customer service skills to perform venipunctures, capillary collections, urinalysis, throat cultures, glucose tolerance testing, and other laboratory procedures. You'll also ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, handled, and documented in accordance with company procedures and safety standards.
Your attention to detail, professionalism, and ability to communicate effectively will be essential to maintaining accurate laboratory results and providing an excellent patient experience.
Essential Functions
  • Provide phlebotomy and patient service coverage at multiple locations.
  • Work a flexible schedule and adapt to changing location and staffing needs.
  • Greet patients and interact with them courteously and professionally.
  • Communicate clearly with patients and provide instructions for special collections.
  • Register patients and perform receptionist responsibilities as needed.
  • Follow all HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Complete assignments accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Follow Universal Precautions, Bloodborne Pathogen, Hazard Communication, and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Properly utilize required personal protective equipment, including gloves and masks.
  • Follow established specimen collection procedures, including:
    • Venipuncture
    • Capillary/heel sticks
    • Urinalysis
    • Throat cultures and strep testing
    • Glucose tolerance testing
    • First aid procedures
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to adverse reactions to venipuncture.
  • Verify patient identity using two approved identifiers before specimen collection.
  • Accurately label and process specimens to ensure patient safety and specimen integrity.
  • Enter patient and specimen information accurately into the laboratory information system.
  • Maintain accurate data entry and documentation.
  • Notify physicians or appropriate personnel of critical laboratory results according to established procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked phlebotomy area.
  • Receive and organize inventory deliveries and break down shipping boxes.
  • Review and follow the Phlebotomy Manual and applicable procedures.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy or medical office assistant course preferred.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
