Job description

This role oversees a state-of-the art service facility by performing a broad range of complex laboratory and research related assessments and self-evaluations, acting as a specialist on laboratory methods and equipment functions, performing a variety of tests requiring a high degree of proficiency, troubleshooting problems and recommending solutions, evaluating experiment results using complex statistical and multivariate analysis.

Position Summary

  • The primary role is to manage the day-to-day operations of the Integrated Biomedical Imaging Facility and the Translational Hearing Center Imaging Facilities, including several types of confocal and multiphoton microscopes, a tunable near-infrared laser, and advanced analytical software applications (such as Imaris).

  • Additional responsibilities include maintaining instruments in excellent working order, performing regular quality assurance checks, interfacing with technical service personnel from the various vendors, conducting training sessions for new users and advising users on optimizing imaging protocols, keeping billing records, keeping current with the latest information in a rapidly developing field of research, generating monthly invoices, and providing customer assistance.

  • Supported by multiple state and federally funded research grants (NIH, NE-INBRE, COBRE), this role requires active participation in organizational meetings and the development of progress reports, presentations, and future grant submissions. 

  • Candidates with a terminal degree are eligible for a non-tenure track faculty appointment.

  • Proficiency with imaging platforms from major vendors (including Nikon, Leica, Zeiss, and Molecular Devices) is essential. The instruments have multiple imaging capabilities and therefore selecting the appropriate instrument for a user's task is especially important.

  • Additional responsibilities include maintaining instruments in excellent working order, performing regular quality assurance checks, interfacing with technical service personnel from the various vendors, conducting training sessions for new users (around 50 per year) advising users on optimizing imaging protocols; Providing customer assistance.
  • Keep billing records and generating monthly invoices.
  • Other duties as assigned; i.e keeping current new research  and preparing information/data for grant submissions and reports.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field of science is required, PhD preferred.
  • 6+ years of research lab experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in optics and advanced microscopy techniques.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Advanced computer skills (editing code, analyzing data, creating graphics, image processing) and analytical skills needed.

This role is partially grant funded.
