ABOUT THIS PLANNING ROLE

This is a full-time position working:

  • Monday through Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Friday: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Please note that some evening hours are required to attend Planning Commission, City Council, and other city-related meetings as needed.


As a Pleasant View City Planner I - Planner II, you play a key role in shaping the community's future through planning, zoning, and development review. Your day may begin with receiving and processing land-use applications and renewal requests, followed by researching planning policies, development concepts, and zoning issues that affect the city's growth. You collaborate with developers, city departments, and community stakeholders during Development Review Committee meetings to identify solutions and opportunities for improvement and ensure projects align with city standards. You prepare detailed reports, analyses, and recommendations regarding zoning applications, ordinance updates, and development code amendments, then confidently present your findings to the Planning Commission and City Council. Through every project, meeting, and recommendation, you help guide thoughtful development while serving as a trusted resource for city leadership and residents alike.

Planner I Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or a closely related field
  • Three to six (3-6) years of experience in a comparable position with a city, county, municipal organization, or similar office setting
  • Experience in planning and zoning, public administration, or a closely related field
  • Experience in a municipal or professional office setting
  • Valid driver's license

Planner II Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, Political Science, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Six (6+) years of experience in a comparable city or county planning position
  • Experience in planning and zoning, public administration, or a closely related field
  • Experience in a municipal or professional office setting
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualification:

  • AICP Certification is highly desired
